Product Description:

FootTrack is iPhoto for your digital video. Catalog all your digital video tapes, then easily find the clips you want. Capture and compress your footage to be able to permanently store your footage on your hard drive.

Whether you are planning a movie or just want to show someone some footage you taped, FootTrack makes it easy to find and keep track of all your footage.

This app will help any iMovie/Final Cut user find the clips they want when they are putting together a potential movie.

What's new in this version:

  • You can now change the catalog location via preferences (if you want to have multiple catalogs). The "Capturing" tab got renamed to "Folder Locations" since can set both the capture location and catalog location there.
  • Searching now matches clips that include the year or month (Feb or 02) in the date recorded. That means you can type "1999" or "Feb" in the search field and match all clips recorded in February or 1999.
  • Fixed the bug where if you did a search for clips that it would only match the first level groups and not any subgroups. If you had a tape named "tape 1" with a group "group 1" and a subgroup "subgroup of group 1" and you selected your tape and did a search for "subgroup" it would not match the clips in the subgroup. Now it does.
  • Fixed a bug where in clip detail view the timecode in/out could be longer than the space available to display.
  • Fixed a bug where if you had a split clip named with a slash in the name (i.e. Clip 08/1) it was not possible to drag the clip from FootTrack and into iMovie.
  • You now have the choice (in Preferences on the Importing tab) of whether during video capture, your clips are be broken up on recording start/stops. It is enabled by default.
  • On the import window you can now choose to import from the iMovie shelf or timeline when importing an iMovie project file. If you want to do both then do the one then the other :-)
  • The capture window now shows the space remaining on the hard drive that the capture folder is located on.
  • During capture you should no longer get breaks in your clips when it shouldn't have (i.e. where iMovie wouldn't have broken the clip up).
  • The capture will stop when you have less than 200MB of disk space left.
  • All captured clips with this version now have a type code of 'dvc!'.
  • When you press return in the search field to start a search the textfield is selected again so you can enter something else (or erase it).

FootTrack ReviewUseless, don't waste your money - Version: 2.4, 11/14/2008 01:44PM PST

Alansworld
It stopped working at the beginning of this year when a new version of QuickTime was released. The problem was broken and/or very low quality video clip thumbnails. In spite of repeated complaints to the company's support email, most of which have gone unanswered, there is still no fix, and the version remain s at 2.4. At present the software is unuseable. Walk away.

FootTrack ReviewFANTASTIC_Needs HDV - Version: 2.3.5, 11/29/2007 03:51PM PST

Truth w Christ
This is really an excellent application for Video "Clip" management.
The only thing I am waiting for is HDV 1080i compatability.
I own the Sony HDR HC7 and have Tapes piling up waiting for Foottrack to get an update for HDV! Please Hurry!

Highly Recommended.

I have been using FootTrack for some months now, and it just works perfect. It is very nice to have small versions of my whole movies/tapes in mini-format on my HD and they don't take much space. I hardly ever watch the full-size video's anymore anyway.
Browsing is easy like in iPhoto, and it supports smart-album alike tapes.
Very well thought application; only thing missing is compression while capturing (without having to import the full-sized movie).
Keep up the good work!
