This program has been one of my favorites for a long time. It saddens me that there has been no signifigant updates in forever. iComic is one of my most often crashing programs. It seems to get confused a lot, and simply shuts down. The spinning beach ball is quite annoying, too.
That being said, one can't blame the program for plug-ins breaking. The comic sites change their code from time to time. iComic does have a very good feedback group on Yahoo! where coders often fix plug-ins that break as soon as someone mentions it. I've never had to wait too long for a plug-in to be fixed.
My biggest complaint about iComic is the frequent and often unexplained crashing. I don't like widgets, so I will not be using iComic 4. I still hope for an update to iComic 3 one day. I still love this program, tempermental as it can be, and don't see myself switching any time soon. You simply can't beat the price.

Not sure about the dashboard stuff, but the application itself is superb. Lots of Mac polish. Really fun to use. My only complaint is about the availability of its plugins and their tendency to not work.

I love iComic, so it pains me to do this, but I am going to remove it from my HD and move on to an alternative comic app. iComic is buggy and still needs some serious optimizations, for example when it's updating a comic strip, the app shouldn't go into hibernation, it needs more threads for greater usability. I wouldn't mind waiting for the bug fixes, but from what I can tell iComic is a dead application - no new updates in almost two years.
Thankfully iComic was free, but it's death is still a loss to me. I was hoping to see iComic mature into a fine application.

It really is still beta software. According to the iComic forum responses 3.0.3 broke the referrer which means kingfeatures comics and others don't work anymore. Had a look at writing a plugin for Dr. Fun which I figured out sure enough. However involves hacking in perl and is ony something developers will like to do. Some of the plugins reinvent the wheel and have nasty bug. One I found (not included) thought it was checking if a comic had already been downloaded but got it wrong and it ended up downloading all the comics every refresh!
I really wonder if these perl scripts are really the way to go....
Never the less. Great little app!!

I'd love to be able to add comics in a simpler fashion, Comictastic-style; if this could be implemented, this software would be a lot more useful. Still, it's fun, the GUI is nice, and pretty stable, besides the occasional crash. Nice work. :)
iComic or Comictastic? Hmmm

iComic's look-and-feel is slightly superior to Comictastic, but really... a 1,445-word document to explain how to add a new comic? I have to edit an XML doc and then test it using command line? What? That's sadistic, even for freeware. :)
At least it launches now

Wow! It launched and retrieved comics! Still a piece of crap!

iComic is open source and the source code can be found here:

If you are a developer please consider picking up it's development (no development has been done for nearly 5 years) and restore it to the great app it was intended to be. Please post your progress in the Yahoo discussion group.
(I'm not the original developer, just someone who loves iComic)
