Product Description:

Formerly, MLdonkey was a Linux client for the eDonkey network, built from a reverse-engineered version of the protocol. Now, it is also able to connect to multiple networks such as Overnet, gnutella, Direct-Connect, Soulseek, BitTorrent. It is written in Objective-Caml and runs on most Unix platforms.

The Edonkey and Overnet networks (avalaible by default in this version) are both particularly efficient for big files thanks to a multi-sources download protocol and a unique file identification. However, unlike the eDonkey network which depends of hundreds of servers linked together, Overnet is a true peer-to-peer with no central server, only clients. So eDonkey is still more efficient for rare and specialized files. Overnet works great for popular files. But rejoice, they have the same file format so you'll benefit from the both networks at the same time with mldonkey!

MLdonkey runs as a daemon, in the background, that can run, downloading and sharing files, 24 hours a day. You can interact with your mldonkey daemon, either locally or remotely, by a telnet interface, a WEB interface or a GTK GUI. Other GUIs have also been created for mldonkey, you can find all the latest Macintosh mldonkey stuff on this homepage : http://homepage.mac.com/michelmoreau/

MLdonkey Reviewso many different ways - Version: 2.5-3, 3/9/2004 12:12AM PST

I started out using mlMac and version 2.5-3 of mlDonkey instead of "-4" b/c of the complaints listed on VT. Worked for a while, but then mlMac started crashing after a week or two of use. I switched to the mlDonkey Interface (written in realbasic) and it worked ok, but slowed down my computer even though the listed CPU usage didn't seem that bad. Finally, I'm using the web interface. No problems yet and it seems like the way to go with mlDonkey. Version 2.5-16 is being developed on at the moment. Oh yeah, your download rate varies a lot and like all p2p networks, it depends on the file you're getting. I'm getting much more success with mlDonkey than Poisoned or Acqlite, if you want a comparison.

MLdonkey ReviewUse Poisoned... atleast when edonkey is added... - Version: 2.5-3, 9/10/2003 11:03AM PST

This app is great, and after using it for months I can easily recommend it to anyone... and it will probably get even better when more networks work properly. But since it has problems showing sources at kazaa in mlmac or any other interface but the webinterface, I have found poisoned to be a better app. And soon poisoned will add the donkey network to its list (with a edonkey plug-in), and then it has all that ml-donkey has, and work with showing sources... also I like the design... but still, this is a 5 star app once you get it working, even though it could be better...
