OpenShiiva ReviewFirst Blush: First Rate - Version: 0.8.9, 8/14/2007 11:21AM PST

I just needed a simple utility to convert .vob to .mpeg. This little (free) app worked just fine on the first pass (having read the caveat about turning on audio compression).

It's evident some people dont' know how to use a MAC (or apps).
This app is great for .VOB converstions, not DVD disks. Use HandBreak for ripping to HDD. Use this to convert a .VOB you had laying around.

OpenShiiva Usage Tipencoding audio - Version: 0.8.9, 4/26/2006 08:29PM PST

A couple of reviewers have noted that they lost the audio when converting.

The same thing happened to me the first time I used it. Turns out you have to go to the "Audio" tab and check the box labeled "Encode audio."

Note to the developer(s): I think this should be the default.

OpenShiiva ReviewOpenShiiva vs. Handbrake - Version: 0.8.9, 4/8/2006 09:58AM PST

18 months ago OpenShiiva was a bit slow and hard to use, and the highest quality mp4 encoder openly available. Handbrake has blown past it recently, worked out its bugs, and is much faster and easier to use.

If you need top quality mp4's, this product still has some nice tweaking options. If you're willing to rip to h.264, Handbrake wins in all categories including quality by a fair margin.

OpenShiiva ReviewNot as good as Handbrake! - Version: 0.8.9, 3/7/2006 08:09PM PST

I don't know about others but on my hands this app doesn't seem to behave. On a PB 1.33 MHz, 512 MB/60 GB I got only 5-6 fps and even worst the sound has been lost. The just released HandBrake 0.7.1 seems to do a much better job, 15-20 fps, nice image and sound. Another good (and free) app to convert your VOB files is D-Vision 3.

OpenShiiva ReviewUseless - Version: 0.8.9, 1/8/2006 10:12AM PST

Totally useless, unless you don't mind losing the sound or that it resizes a widescreen movie to a 4:3 movie.
Just sucks.

OpenShiiva ReviewAbsolutely Excellent - Version: 0.8.9, 11/29/2005 12:57AM PST

This is the only application that I would ever want to use for converting annoying VOB files to managable MP4s. Not only is it an easy-to-use app, but it complies with the Mac look and feel. It is also relatively fast considering the processor-heave job that it does.

OpenShiiva Reviewgreat application - Version: 0.8.9, 11/13/2005 11:21AM PST

This is a great app in converting vob file to mp4. With some dvd's ffmpefx kept 'selecting' the wrong language/audiotrack. Openshiiva does it without any problems.

It's a pity that the developer does not have the time anymore to maintain it.

OpenShiiva ReviewThis is a great product - Version: 0.8.9, 6/22/2005 07:48PM PST

I was stumped by QuickTime 7. I kept getting failure errors doing simple compressions. I found this product and I am so happy! It does it fast, does it right, and the instructions are easy to follow. It is fantastic! Good job!
