Does this work with Intel Macs? - Version: 1.1.1, 7/12/2007 03:25PM PST

I used to run Xkeys with my old Powerbook. I just upgraded to a Macbook Pro and Xkeys no longer seems to work. Is it not compatible with newer Macs? Is there a good alternative app to get the same functionality anyone can suggest?

...for providing something Apple should have.
After years of OS 9.1 (with an FKey CP whose name I don't recall), am finally into OS X, and I have missed being able to just touch an FKey to launch an app.
Next enhancements, when you have the time:
1. I have 16 FKeys on my eMac keyboard. The last one feels left out.
2. I suppose I can AppleScript this and assign an FKey to the script, but opening a URL in the default browser would be cool.

Love this app!

Great app. I used to have function keys enabled under OS 9 to open applications, now I can do it under OS X. Even better that this is freeware. Working great under OS 10.4.3 on an iMac G5.

so, i guess i'm a dirty liar. or i just jump to conclusions.
Xkeys DOES work under 10.4. pretty much just as it did before, which is fantastic and exactly what i want it to do. the problem relates to not being able to use F14/Scroll Lock and F15/Pause without modifiers on my PS/2 keyboard via a USB adapter. dunno why, but HotApp does the same thing. hope there's a way around...
i suppose i have a couple of issues, then:
- Apple-any Fkey makes Fkey Listener crash, regardless of something being bound to it. "OutOfBoundsException" - can't find a crash log.
- could be a little more robust. i love the feature set, but one thing that i'd like is to at least emulate all of the bezel-friendly Apple "special" keys: volume and eject, and perhaps brightness and contrast (never use them, though). anyone know how to do that in AppleScript?
otherwise, i love it as usual!

fantastic utility. doesn't work in tiger. - Version: 1.1.1, 5/2/2005 02:41PM PST

this is a great, GREAT utility that worked well (occasional quits) up to 10.3.9. it does NOT work in Tiger 10.4 (8A428), sadly. i still have use for it, and i hope the author will update this.
in case you don't know what it does, it lets you launch applications, folders, or applescripts with f-keys or combinations thereof. it can also bring up a menu of options, which is how i used it. F14 would bring up a menu with some utility programs that i use often enough to not want to dig for them, but not so often i want to use space on the dock. calculator, toast, etc would live in there, and on F14 i also had a script to eject my iPod, so F14+F14 would eject it as i'm getting stuff ready for school.
cmonnnnn, 10.4 compatibility!

Hi, these product reviews are so old, I wanted to make sure it works with 10.3.7. There doesn't seem to have been any recent feedback in many months.
Thank you.
Thank you.

On the Installer asking for "Fkey Listener" - Version: 1.1.1, 8/4/2004 09:05PM PST
Zarkonnen
If you are installing Xkeys for the first time, the installer will pop up a window asking you to locate "Fkey Listener". Simply close this window when it appears, and Xkeys will install fine.
Also note that Xkeys installs into your Utilities folder!
"Where is FKey Listener?" - Version: 1.1.1, 3/5/2004 07:55AM PST
mooncaine
When I try to install Xkeys for the first time, a second application, besides the Installer app, opens. It's called "preflight", and it pops up a non-standard Open dialog box with a question at the top: "Where is FKey Listener?"
I've never heard of it. I searched my system, then VersionTracker, and find no mention of it. What the heck is it? Where do I get it [if it's even possible]?
Thank you in advance for your suggestions.

Note that while Xkeys crashes under Mac OS X 10.3.0 and 10.3.1, it works fine under the newest version. So if you update, everything should work fine again.
It's soooo great...

that I haven't been able to upgrade to MacOS X 10.3.2 yet because Xkeys doesn't work in it yet. Pretty please update Xkeys. Mountains of snowy white whipped cream with cherries on top! This is a great product. It saves me so much time I don't want to lose it by upgrading the OS.
