Ext2 Filesystem Troubleshooting ReportWARNING!!! KILLED MY HDD TOO!!!!!! - Version: 1.4d4, 7/19/2009 02:37PM PST

DaRealDude
Gee, damn, this software totally killed my HDD. I installed it, rebooted, and the macbook 13" came up normally. plugged in the EXT3 USB filesystem.. nothing.

Then, after 10 minutes, macbook went in sleep modus, and never got out of it. Reboot and stuff, nothing worked!!!!.

I removed the HDD and put it in an fantec external USB case.. nope, mu other Mac did not even recognize the disk... everything lost.... :-(

So again: WARNING!!! KILLED MY HDD TOO!!!!!!

Ext2 Filesystem ReviewDoes not mount EXT3 drive - Version: 1.4d4, 12/27/2007 04:57PM PST

I have three blocks on a USB drive that was on a defunct Linksys network server. Using the icon in Preference, it says that each block could not be mounted due to a file error (0xf8DA00C). Any help?

Ext2 Filesystem ReviewBEWARE: Fried my hard drive! - Version: 1.4d4, 2/26/2007 09:56PM PST

mserrano1
I was testing this software on a (ext2) hard drive with expendable data just to see how well it worked. I knew this is a "developer's" version and I was aware that it might kill the data--but as the data was expendable, no problem I thought--I could just reformat the drive.

However, I got a kernel panic as soon as I rebooted with this software installed and when my Mac started up again, it would no longer recognize the drive at all. I tried accessing the drive from a Linux PC, but the computer would not even boot with the drive attached.

All attempts to revive this hard drive have failed.

BEWARE: THIS SOFTWARE DESTROYED A PERFECTLY FUNCTIONING HARD DRIVE!

Witha a warning like this in the read me file why would you bother installing this software unless you wanted your system to crash or become unstable?

I'll wait or find an alternative!

EXT2 Filesystem for Mac OS X, 1.4d4, 2006/12/3

"This release could cause kernel panics and/or deadlocks that hang the machine. In addition, write support has not been stressed tested, therefore filesystem corruption may be possible. Please keep this in mind before using it."

Ext2 Filesystem Commentaryext2 just works - Version: 1.4d3, 12/30/2006 04:14PM PST

I triple boot my Mac and couldnt believe there's no native support for ext3 (most people use this nowadays instead of ext2). Thank goodness then for Ext2 because it also handles Ext3. Yes, the name...

Just had to transfer files over, documents and such, worked beautifully. Has option not to automount it as well.

A newer development version of ext2fsx is available here:

http://www.bergstrand.org/brian/software/bin/Ext2FS_1.4d2.dmg

Don't worry, it's direct from the developer, as noted here:

Ext2 Filesystem CommentaryIt is Tiger Compatible but buggy - Version: 1.4d1, 3/9/2006 08:19AM PST

This latest version is Tiger compatible, but you will get a kernel panic if you do a Spotlight search while an ext2/3 partition is mounted. This bug has been registered with the project.
