Product Description:

DVDBackup is intended to let you exercise your "fair use" rights under copyright law to either "time-shift" or "space-shift" DVD content which you may have purchased legitimately. An example of time-shifting would be to temporarily store the data from a DVD you rented so as to watch it at a later time after you have returned the disc (and avoided late fees!). An example of space-shifting would be to copy one or more DVD discs to your laptop hard drive so as to watch them while on a long airplane flight. A final usage of DVDBackup would be to allow you to modify or excerpt sections of DVD video and audio to create your own movies.

What's new in this version:

  • Fixed bug where VIDEO_TS.VOB files were not getting scanned for decryption. (This affected mainly Columbia/TriStar releases which encrypted the initial studio logo)
  • Fixed size of text box for New Folder section of save dialog.
  • Added localization for Italian (many thanks to Bruno Vella for his help!).
  • Now compiled with GCC 3.1 and Mac OS 10.2 headers
  • Updated web links in Readme file

Operating System Requirements:

This product is designed to run on the following operating systems:

  • Mac OS X 10.3
  • Mac OS X 10.2
  • Mac OS X 10.1
  • Mac OS X 10.0

I just wanted to say thanks for the great program. I am new to DVD back up (downloaded it about 3 months ago) and LOVED the program. I am sorry that due to piracy of software and 'free-loaders' not supporting computer programers that your company is no longer in business. You had a great product and thanks for your time and effort.
Sincerely
scott

This bears repeating because it seems a lot of people are not aware of the situation:

DVDBackup is NOT being developed or supported anymore. There will be NO updates for Tiger. The author specifically gave up because he could no longer afford to produce it for free, and the copyright laws in the U.S. prevented him from safely collecting money for it above ground.

I repeat, DVDBackup is dead. If it works for you, that's great, but if you're looking for a modern program that also handles newly emerging copy protection schemes, you need to use MacTheRipper.

The developer of DVDBackup will NOT be coming to your rescue. There will be NO tech support. There will be NO bug fixes. There will be NO upgrades. The source code will NOT be released to the public under the GPL. It's over. Please get used to this fact.

I'm not trying to be mean, but I think it's sad when folks get too emotionally attached to an old program, instead of going out and finding current tools that work.

Only the first few chapters get ripped. Everything seems to work OK, no errors or dialogues, but the ripped movie plays to about 1/4 of the way, then simply stops. The VIDEO_TS files are only about 3 or 4GB, usually they're double that. Hope it gets fixed soon.
