Sayonara M-Audio.

Huh?1
Kernel panics, worthless customer support, horrendous site support, sparse updates, ad infinitum. We've wasted more time than it's worth, constantly troubleshooting our M-Audio audio interfaces, pci cards, etc along with their respective drivers. It's beyond ridiculous. I'm astonished any Mac users actually invest in M-Audio products anymore. Needless to say we've pulled all M-Audo products from our studio and wouldn't consider any of their products ever again, under any circumstances. The very least we could do was add our two cents to the site for others to consider with the rest of their buying advice.
Mac Support? - Version: 1.4.1, 10/7/2006 03:19PM PST

There have been no updates since May of last year. Are these guys going to support their cards? My G4 MDD is working fine and I don't need an Intel Mac anytime soon, so should I throw the card out? Speakers are getting worse with card while headphones or cheap speakers using Mac are great.
One more reason to stop buying M-Audio Products

With the 10.4.4 update, the keyboard volume controls no longer work. System Prefs for Sound indicate the 7.1 does not have any volume controls. Could not find a way to configure.
This is the 2nd pile of junk M-Audio product I've purchased. It will be the last.

QuickTime 7 problems anyone?? - Version: 1.4.1, 5/28/2005 08:58AM PST

I have found a very interesting problem with both this and the previous driver and QuickTime 7 - specifically browser support. I do a lot of training movies that I post to the web for my users and I have found that when you embed a QT movie when you go to watch it, the sound doesn't come through. If I shove the sound through Core Audio (which I am now doing) I don't have this problem.
The movies play fine by themselves if you download the movies to your desktop, but if you play them in the browser, no go. Is anyone else having this issue? I think this is really something that they should look at. I have since uninstalled both the drivers and the hardware. I concur that until M-Audio gets their act together with this card (which has been pretty problematic from the get go) I am not going to recommend this to anyone. Too bad too, because it was a great card in theory.

This latest release seems to have solved most of the problems I was having with kernel panics, which is a welcome improvement. However, despite getting in contact with their tech support about this issue in the 1.4.0 drivers, it hasn't been fixed:
If the system volume is turned below about 1/3, the sound cuts out completely. In addition, sound levels have dropped considerably. When using the 1.2.9 drivers, I leave the system volume at around 1/2, which is more that adequate for room-filling sound. As of 1.4.0, the only way to get comparable volume is to turn the system volume to the max, and when I do, I'm noticing a decrease in sound quality: it's as though the sound is being run through some sort of muffling filter. Completely unacceptable.
Their tech support is utterly useless. Most times, I never get a reply, and when I do, it's usually a canned response. My card once again returns to paperweight status until M-Audio gets their act together. Worst computer-related purchase in the last several years.

Kernal Panic with ver 1.4.1 and OS 10.4.1 - Version: 1.4.1, 5/25/2005 12:48AM PST

I had previously removed the Revolution 7.1 after installing Tiger. Uninstalled the old driver and installed verion 1.4.1 and rebooted. All fine. Checked permissions, shut down, and installed the audio card. Reset the Cuda button and booted up. At the blue screen system boot process stopped with a kernal panic. Card now back in the closet, and all works well. Will fiddle with it all another time.

Problems with 10.4

With the 1.4 update, MacOS X 10.4 (and 10.4.1) will not restart/shutdown. I've heard that downgrading to the 1.29 driver solves this issue, but that driver is also known to cause kernel panics. I've yanked this card from my Mac until M-Audio can get it together.

System hangs frequently

Finally, after a couple years of accepting the 'issues' with the Revolution 7.1, I've given up. I've removed the card from my computer and I'm using the built in Mac sound card.
I just couldn't take the crashes from playing iTunes for a prolonged period of time and playing world of warcraft just caused my machine to hang every fifteen minutes. Ever since I removed the card, it's been smooth sailing. I'm a little afraid of trying the latest patch..

...having crazy crashing problems with the new 1.4.0 update? I'm getting total system lock-up when any sort of program that can change the system-level audio settings is opened (Audio MIDI Setup, even the Sounds panel in the System preferences).
Look Out if you use iSight/iChat

After an exhausting system-wide reinstall of OSX and applications, I tracked my iSight audio input problem to the Revolution software. When it's installed, iChat and iMovie HD don't register the iSight's microphone. Removed all M-Audio software, the mic came back. I wrote them about this but have heard nothing yet...
