Product Description:

WinTel allows host operating systems (and applications) such as Microsoft Windows(R) to run in a protected, virtual environment in a window on Mac OS X. With the availability of the Intel based Macintoshes, instructions may be dynamically translated, drastically enhancing performance. OpenOSX claims that WinTel 2.1.0 on the Intel can boot Windows XP in just over half a minute on the Intel 2.0 GHz-Duo iMac with the stock 512-MB of RAM installed. WinTel contains three sets of binaries optimized for PowerPC G4, G5 and Intel processors. The 2.1.0 version also simplifies use and eliminates several minor potential issues.

What's new in this version:

WinTel 2.1.0 now features "Qemu" offering dynamic translation for 300% to 600% performance gains over the previous version of the product on Intel Macintosh computers.

Operating System Requirements:

This product is designed to run on the following operating systems:

  • Mac OS X 10.4 Intel
  • Mac OS X 10.4 PPC

WinTel ReviewDoesn't Work With Intel iMacs - Version: 2.1.2, 3/21/2006 01:34PM PST

Despite what the developer's site states, this WILL NOT install XP onto an Intel iMac. I took the voluminous amount of negative feedback here with a grain of salt, gave OpenOSX the benefit of the doubt, and ended up losing $25 for my efforts.

For a good laugh, check out the "Installation Instructions" on their site that uses screenshots from a different version than the one they're selling. Very professional...this developer's site should have a countdown clock representing the small amount of time left before he goes out of business.

WinTel ReviewDon't buy this... - Version: 2.1.2, 3/21/2006 12:33PM PST

Don't bother buying this crap. I did, and even after two 20 hour attempts to install Win XP, it doesn't work. And both WinTel's UI as well as their so called tutorials are not even a joke.
Instead, just go here http://www.beatnikpad.com/archives/2006/03/20/windows-mac-q and after 50 Minutes XP runs without problems and with a decent UI.

WinTel CommentaryWARNING - Version: 2.1.2, 3/16/2006 11:58PM PST

This is basically Bochs (http://bochs.sourceforge.net/), an open-source and free x86 emulator. Therefore WinTel is just a lousy GUI from someone who wants to make quick $$$ from people that do not know that this tool is actually free.
On Intel Macs this does not even run natively (like VMWare).

Just a warning.
