Apple Time Capsule & AirPort Base Station Reviewcrap - Version: 7.4.2, 7/2/2009 07:50PM PST

plaintiger
i'd finally gotten my airport setup working perfectly when this &%$#?! update came out. since installing the update, one of the benefits of which is supposedly that it fixes a problem that was causing dropped connections, my connection drops at least once a day and usually more. this sucks big time.

i hope i can down-date.

Apple Time Capsule & AirPort Base Station ReviewStill not supporting wireless HP scanner. - Version: 7.4.2, 6/27/2009 08:51AM PST

After updating to 7.4.1 my wireless hp Photosmart 3310 (scanner only) stop communicating with my network. 7.4.2 did not fix this problem. I have to use older 7.3.2 which is working OK but I am bothered with messages about new available update and yellow light.

Apple Time Capsule & AirPort Base Station Commentaryi don't know... - Version: 7.4.2, 6/27/2009 01:28AM PST

plaintiger

i'm seeing weird behaviors with 7.4.2 that i never saw with 7.4.1, like a dropped connection (which 7.4.2 was supposed to *fix,* not introduce) and incredible sloth in connecting to websites and mail and stuff.

is it possible to downgrade?

Apple Time Capsule & AirPort Base Station Troubleshooting ReportTimeCapsule with 7.4.2 did not liked my MacBook anymore - Version: 7.4.2, 6/24/2009 11:59AM PST

Just connected for a very short moment, then disconnected after upgrading to 7.4.2. Solution was to change the security from WPA2 to WPA on the laptop. After connecting successfull, I could go back to WPA2. Looks for me like a private or public key problem. Had the same issue with older firmwares and Windows Vista crab machines. But neber before with a Mac. My IMAC did not had the troubles.

So far so good. Reception is better and stronger. Using on Mac Pro (Tiger) and Mac Book Pro (Leopard). The update was smooth.

Apple Time Capsule & AirPort Base Station ReviewTOTALLY KILLED MY TIME MACHINE - Version: 7.4.2, 6/24/2009 02:45AM PST

Now I have to go back in time.

Took 3 restarts with the paper clip to get back up and running. Everything looked good with the firmware update - until it didn't recover from the restart.

Had a steady yellow light. Power cycling it never displayed a green light - or even a flashing one.

Paper clip made the light go off - only when inserted.

Had to completely restore by holding the paper clip in the reset hole while plugging in power. Good thing I had a recent saved configuration!!!

Apple: Last update you guys removed support for my Laserwriter. This month I spent all night troubleshooting a routine update.

Next month: Linksys?

Airport flashing orange at me this morning. Never usually a good sign. Box came up on my desktop telling me to click for new Firmware. Did so and all went through very smoothly. Not sure what difference it'll make but the update was simple.

Apple Time Capsule & AirPort Base Station CommentarySTILL no QoS Support?! - Version: 7.4.2, 6/23/2009 04:11PM PST

STILL no QoS Support -- since many of us have been using VoIP services like BroadVoice, Vonage, Skype or similar, especially small businesses, Apple really has to add Quality of Service features to Time Capsule and Airport devices... If Linksys can do it, so can Apple...

I fired up Airport Utility (5.4.1) and had it check for updates. It told me there were none. So something definitely isn't working right. Or perhaps this is only for Time Capsule?
