VoodooPad CommentaryTry to avoid .Mac iDisk sycing and USB thumbdrives - Version: 3.1.3, 1/28/2007 08:33AM PST

There is a warning by Gus on the VoodooPad Forum which needs to be taken seriously and warrants clarification. Gus warns that corruption and loss of data on VoodooPad documents can occur when using .Mac iDisk syncing and USB thumbdrives. I left a longish comment on the forum. If the described dangers are true VoodooPad cannot be given 5 stars; it might be unusable. I love this application but if there is the potential of messing data up by using well established ways of organising ones workflow there is something severely wrong and this needs to be mended, asap.

VoodooPad CommentarySomething Weird Going On - Version: 3.1.1, 10/6/2006 03:02PM PST

There is something very odd about this application. It has strange mystical powers. I don't need it. I use NoteBook. NoteBook does everything that I am ever likely to ask of VoodoPad and more. Something keeps luring me back to VoodooPad though. What is going on? I think that it has something to do with the artwork. I keep going through the thought processes of buying it and then have to stop myself. Yes it is simply brilliant and brilliantly simple but I just don't need it, I have NoteBook.

I keep hoping that I will see a license being offered as a prize. I can't justify buying it, but I could accept it as a prize. I feel too embarrased to ask my partner to buy it for me for a present, although it would absolve me of some responsibility.

It has got to the stage where I have to keep checking that someone isn't messing with my medication. I don't normally have feelings about software. I either like it or I don't, but this is having some strange effect on my mind.

Gus, for the sake of my sanity, please take this product off the market. :o)

VoodooPad Usage TipGreat Note Taker - Version: 3.0.2, 8/17/2006 07:51AM PST

VoodooPad is an excellent program that NEVER crashes. I have looked at other note taking programs but none compare to this one. I also export all of my note collection to an html folder, then copy that to my Treo 700p. Add the index.htm to the Blazer bookmarks and all of my notes are readily available when I am away from my Mac.

I love Voodoo and couldn't live without it. Unfortunately, DO NOT UPDATE to 3.0 when you're on OSX 10.3.9 as versiontracker does not carry the older version.

It's a great tool for blogs and even website development. It's a great tool worth the investment.

Now only wish version tracker would keep us 10.3 in the loop or else there is no point any more.

I am an author. I make 100% of my living by writing. Over the years, there is only one other data-storing and organizing program I have liked, and it was Tinderbox. But for working on the next edition of my 900-page book, I have switched to VoodooPad and am VERY pleased with the feel of it. Given how my book has 50-some odd chapters, I've set up a separate folder for each chapter which contains its own VoodooPad document or Wikipedia-like database. VoodooPad has earned my respect, and I really am a pretty harsh critic of software when it comes to my work. Just making a change to something new is an extreme step for me. Also, the three or four times I pestered the VoodooPad tech support with presales questions or to make a suggestion, some guy named Gus has always gotten back to me within 12 to 24 hours. I've now been using the program heavily for two months. Will update this in another couple of months after the next edition goes to press. One problem I have is that this program has been so stable that I don't make backups as often as I should. I've suggested to Gus that they make an easy backup button, or a more robust back-up protocol. But that's not the program's fault! As for the ratings, support is excellent, documentation not so great.

This is the only application I've found in many years that easily lets me jot down all those little bits of information I need to keep track of, keeps *everything* in one place and all linked together so it's easy to access.

This is one of those few rare pieces of software, I rank it right up there with BBEdit and OmniWeb.
