IPNetSentryX CommentaryUnneeded in Tiger? - Version: 1.6c3, 5/16/2007 09:10AM PST

If you've got Stealth mode enabled in OS 10.4, why would you need IPNetSentry?
This app is useful for OS 10.3 and below but not needed in Tiger, right? Correct me if I'm wrong.
After all, this app is $60, why spend it if you don't need to.

It says here on Versiontracker that it is $40.00, but on their site it is $60.00. Am I missing something?

IPNetSentryX ReviewVery Useful Tool - Version: 1.2.04, 1/11/2005 06:43AM PST

This app is a very good tool for detecting unauthorized network behavior. One strength is that it works well with other apps for a layered defense strategy. I have not noticed a temperature increase in my CPU (G4).

IPNetSentryX CommentaryInternal Temp Increase - Version: 1.2.01, 12/3/2004 02:44PM PST

Don't know if it's normal, but my IBook G4 internal temp increases 35 degrees when I run IPNSX. Goes back down when I turn it off. Maybe Firewall has a dual meaning in this case.

IPNetSentryX ReviewWell You Want Protection? Try this! - Version: 1.2c6, 11/8/2004 03:14PM PST

WELL, all of the detractors should try the latest version! I have used IPNS for two years in Mac OS 9.x for two years: Truly, an great protection application! Now with OSX 10.3.6, IPNSX has matured into an EXCELLENT Firewall application. In fact, the truly neat thing is YOU can run BOTH IPNSX with Apple's inboard OSX firewall (w/o any conflict). You might say THIS combo IS TRULY an "Internet Condom" for the 21st. Century! Select all of the default rules, and RELAX: You are protected: Just select the defaults!

IPNetSentryX ReviewProblems getting this to work... - Version: 1.2c2, 3/27/2004 12:30PM PST

Indeed the interfaces window would not list any/all interfaces and when applying your settings it states "Sentry on failure: no such file or directory". Blocked pages can still be reached; apparently it doesn't block anything because of this error. The "configure as startup item" is a bit a vague description; it doesn't show up in the login items. So how to disable the startup item?
I was a happy user on Classic, but this seems to have a way to go before it comes close... Hopefully a bug fix version will be available very soon.

10.2.8

The interfaces window would not list any interfaces, next try, it listed only one, next time I clicked on the tab the pane would not show at all. The startup item menu item has no dialogue, no help info.

Hooray for backups! I'm a big fan of IPNSX, but this version crashes everytime on launch! This is on 10.3.3. Luckily my backup works fine. Install with caution!

kaida says this is the worse beta ever seen, but is not articulate enough to provide any details or reasoning. That's not a review, it's a whine. I've been using this since 1.1c1 without problems. Easy to use, added my own rules after just few minutes are reading. As soon as I take my PB on the road, out from behind my firewall, I instantly and easily see who's "knocking." I've got Apple's buitin firewall activated, but it provides little or no data.
