Product Description:

Direct RSS allows the creation and maintenance of an RSS syndication file without the requirement to have a web site. Many blog publishing tools come with the capability of creating an RSS file of the blog. The purpose here is to create an independent RSS file direct from the desktop. A file of this type is accessible in any one of the RSS reader and/or aggregators available. A recommended news reader is NetNewsWire from ranchero.com. Direct RSS uses the RSS 0.92 format and the generated file uses the 10 most recent posts in the History. Requires FTP access to a web server for upload of file.

Operating System Requirements:

This product is designed to run on the following operating systems:

  • Mac OS X 10.2

what I was looking for. True, it doesn't do everything but it does enough to get your doc started and you can tweak the rest by hand without much trouble, which I prefer. (Wouldn't mind seeing conversion of HTML to entities, but I do that now with AppleScript.)

Direct RSS ReviewExcellent idea, but… - Version: 1.0, 2/17/2003 12:03PM PST

lots of work. Need an effective, easy way to select, edit, and control multiple RSS files and the ability to simply save as a local file - FTP uploads should be only an option since a lot of people don't use FTP for file transfer. (It would be neat to add SFTP and WebDAV options though...) There is also no apparent way to control the number of posts. All in all, the best option for me at this point is still a text editor. Still, I imagine that with some work this could become a nice and useful tool that definitley fills a need out there.
