Vidi Usage TipLove it! - Version: 0.4.7, 4/23/2008 09:21PM PST

Had a problem with my camera, but after a couple hours of troubleshooting in the net, I figured it out... For my Sony Camera, I have to turn off a setting called A/V->DV OUT in the Menu when in VCR mode. Then it works. I now have a Sony DCR-TRV350 connected to my iMac with the A/V cable, S-video (possibly better quality, but not sure yet) and iLink (Firewire). Plus the scheduled recording is extra easy with my Directv D10-300 receiver 'cause you can tell the tuner to auto tune to a channel when a program's on. Great product. Thanks!

Being able to record video "in the middle of the night" is wonderful. The program is easy to use (except for military time) and works as promised.

I have a cable tuner connected to my Intel iMac using a Sony DCR-TRV20 as analog to digital converter. The picture quality on the iMac even in full screen mode is great. Manual and timer controlled recording produced DV movies.
Universal application.

This says that no DV device is present, and it quits.

My iSight works flawlessly with every other app.

Massively better than the Formac software provided with the studio TVR which is buggy even in the latest release. Latency is considerably less (by my estimate almost a fifth) which makes monitoring a recording while you have sound up on both computer and source TV a lot less disconcerting.

Vidi is also more reliable. The Formac software regularly drops the video signal, particularly at startup or during window resizing. Vidi works exactly as it should and makes you wonder why Formac can't do it...

Vidi also offers the option of splitting the DV recording into 2Mb chunks, which is quite useful.
There is however no option to save as a Quick Time movie and there are no Mpeg conversion options. As these don't work in the Formac software that I have I don't see this as much of a loss...

Three stars for documentation and support simply because I haven't had to use it so i've no idea how good it is!

Vidi CommentaryExactly what I needed! - Version: 0.4.5, 4/4/2006 04:10PM PST

Vidi is great for viewing DV tapes right from the camera. Don't know why Apple could not have come up with a full screen DV viewing solution.
Also works great with my Pinnacle MovieBox viewing analog video from a security cam.
Wishlist: Recording 'Pause' button and drop the popup message regarding if I want to stop the recording. Instant stop please, if that's possible.
File size option so that it fits on a standard DVD.

SUPERB !

Waited to receive hdtv tuner to write review, hd stations have better resolution than dvd
16 X 9 display option is great
Tuner is plugged via s-video in Pinnacle's MovieBox DV
Until today, i was using standard VHS tuner and results were better than eye-tv
Thank you for such a fine utility, brightness adjustment would be welcomed
Keep up the good work

Read other peoples views and thought i'd give it a try with Formac studio TVR. (Thought the software was very poor - kept crashing!)...My faith was restored - excellent software that actually works! Far better than Formacs' own. Well done - most excellent! :)
