forty-two ReviewStopped working; developer ignores support requests - Version: 1.6.2, 10/11/2006 03:34PM PST

I used this product with no problems when I was running Panther. Since upgrading to Tiger, it complains that I "must install the BSD." I have no idea what it thinks is wants, since the BSD installation is automatically done in Tiger (it isn't an option anymore, it gets installed every time). The developer has ignored three e-mailed support requests and his iChat address is never active. At this point, forty-two looks and smells like a dead product.

forty-two Review'tis crap, Laddie. - Version: 1.6.2, 5/3/2005 06:54AM PST

I've watched this app for awhile, hoping it would mature, and just gave it a serious try again. It does have the problems mentioned by other reviewers (won't accept a video_ts folder), despite condescending remarks by shills who tell us to look for imaginary spaces in file paths.
Been at this long enough to know crap when I see it. No more time to waste.
Obviously developers want to sell their shareware versions, but the freeware version doesn't inspire confidence.

forty-two CommentaryAlso don't work here - Version: 1.6.2, 4/15/2005 07:58AM PST

Errors by installing and also script errors, like allready discribed by GaryMac. I can chose languages, wich are not on the DVD, but the one I need is not listed in the popup menu. And when I chose "Others", I'll get what? Right, a script error. I guess this still needs a lot of work.

I also think, if developers are real good programmers, the app comes as one drag&drop file, or as installer. Safe for ediots like me, wich have to understand a ReadMe in a foreign language.

forty-two ReviewWorks perfectly. - Version: 1.6.2, 12/30/2004 05:17PM PST

I can't speak for the people who are getting errors, and claiming this program does nothing. I can say however, that it installed and works, perfectly. I followed the manual, installed it, and am now ripping a copy of the movie "Antitrust" as a test.

I can't speak for the speed as I haven't used many other ripping apps, but I can say that it's a very straight forward application, that does precisely what it says it will. A nice touch is that it offers a "1 CD" option which essentially tries its best to get the absolute best quality balance, while still fitting the resulting Divx file, onto a standard 700 MB CD-R.

My only complaint with this product, is a minor one. It asks you which track on the disc you'd like to rip and compress, but it doesn't give you a clue as to which track is which. I had to open another app, Handbrake, to find out the track information.

All in all, an *excellent* little program.

forty-two Troubleshooting ReportPoor Applescript errors and non-functional. - Version: 1.6.2, 10/6/2004 01:54AM PST

GaryMac
I have to say and agree with previous comments regarding this product.
It does not work! I am running Panther 10.3.5 and all I get is 'Applescript' errors all the time.

It does not recognise PAL DVD's very well and thinks they are NTSC.
It could not recognise there was any audio on any DVD i Inserted,
complaining that you needed an AC3 stream to convert the audio, it just could not find one!
It is such a shame that there is not one single working DVD conversion product on the market that can deliever what Windows
users take for granted.

A simple 3 step solution to DVD to DIVX conversion like DR DIVX.

forty-two CommentaryDoes exactly nothing - Version: 1.6.2, 7/7/2004 06:54AM PST

I followed the installation instructions TO THE LETTER on two different machines running OS X 10.3.4. The program does nothing. Can't drag anything into the window or can't select anything using the Open DVD Folder command.

forty-two CommentaryGreat, but soft sound... - Version: 1.6.2, 6/8/2004 09:26AM PST

This program has been working great -- been doing it to the 1CD format (which is DivX AVI). However, running into an issue with the sound being really soft. Other than that, it's good.

bennib1982
The program is great but i have stumbled upon a problem. i need to know if i can fit a file that is to large for a single cd onto two by splitting it somehow. Whether i do this in toast or whether it is actualling in the program. Any help would be apreciated
