iClip CommentaryiClip no more working under 10.6 at all - Version: 4, 10/22/2009 05:47AM PST

Having used iClip for years, it's a real pitty. Developer who was really responsive and interested seems to have lost any and all interest in the program by now.

iClip Reviewupdate - Version: 4, 11/28/2008 01:40PM PST

plaintiger

several things:

1: iClip is back. despite the complaints on here about iClip being unsupported, i got a response today from the developer (reasonably prompt, that) and, long story short, the crashing problem i was having turned out to be a corrupt plist file that i couldn't find for some reason (i guess i only searched with Spotlight, which deems searching ~/Library/Preferences to be beneath it). i tossed that file and all is well with iClip again...provided you overlook the overwrought UI.

2: thank you for the recommendation, epc; i've now installed PTH Pasteboard and am giving it a try, and as an iClip user, i see why you recommend it. i can even set it up to behave much like iClip, hot-key-wise - i have iClip set to pop up with Command-Option-Control-i, and PTH Pasteboard with Command-Option-Control-p so i can use both; if i prefer PTH i'll migrate to it altogether.

3: i'm not as sure about Keyboard Maestro as many of the other people reviewing it. but that's a matter for Keyboard Maestro's VT page.

Have you tried PTH Pasteboard?
Now I own 5 pasteboard applications, and PTH Pasteboard is the one I use every day.
iClip 3 was really good, but it all went downhill with iClip 4.
PTH Pasteboard has not failed me. I use a variety of clipboards, and assigned 500 items to my main clipboard. Can't complain.

iClip Commentaryfarewell, iClip, i guess... - Version: 4, 11/26/2008 02:08AM PST

plaintiger

i've relied heavily on iClip for a couple/few years now; i abandoned it for a while when v.4 came out with its unnecessarily gaudy and time-consuming UI, but i eventually returned after being unable to find any satisfactory alternatives. sadly, the app seems to have gone south on me once and for all - it's begun crashing at launch with an "unexpected error" and since the app doesn't seem to have any support files like a plist or anything that i could trash to try to resurrect it, and replacing the app with a newly downloaded copy didn't help, i can see nothing for it but to give up and look elsewhere for my multiple-clipboard goodness. i've written to the developer, but from what i'm seeing posted here i deduce that holding my breath pending a response would be...inadvisable.

Keyboard Maestro, here i probably come...

iClip ReviewI am abandoning this product just like the developer did - Version: 4, 11/16/2008 06:55AM PST

VancouverRMT
After over two years of regular usage of first v3 and v4 since its release, I am finally abandoning iClip, and I'm not in a good mood about it. My major complaint is that it is too slow: I am tired of waiting for its glitzy interface to respond to my requests, and sick of it taking as long to launch as about six other applications combined.

iClip 4 is certainly not horrible, but it's far from excellent, and there's really no excuse for that. It certainly could be excellent.

As other reviewers here have commented in the last few months, the developer seems to have abandoned the product. Optimizations and bug fixes are needed, but there's no sign of active development, and the only responses I've received to about three different inquiries have been slow and a touch defensive and disinterested -- the "no one else has reported that" school of tech support. Meh.

Back in February of 2007 I said: "Perhaps a future release will redeem iClip, but as it is right now, version 4 does not even deserve the same name as version 3. Hopefully we won’t have to wait over a year for the next great release. This could really be a great application, worthy of 5 stars."

22 months later it's still the same initial version 4 release.
Over hyped, overpriced, and with poor support. I guess that Macheist is more profitable so improving iClip 4 has not been a priority.

iClip ReviewDont' buy this product - Version: 4, 10/1/2008 10:46PM PST

Don't buy this application as it appears to have been abandoned by the developer who has moved on to bigger and more prosperous endeavors (macheist and other projects). It's very buggy! No updates in almost a year which has forced me to cease using the application. I'm rather upset considering that I paid to update from the previous edition of this software and all I get in the end is nothing :(

Needed updates never happen, and probably never will. I am tired of these one-hit wonders that profess the world, and fall short of delivery. Be careful though for if John Con-asanta does not like you he will direct his growing group of conies against you as he did against the developers of Speed Download. He has shown that he can be a very nasty person. I ceased participating in MacHeist because of his directed nastiness, and the MacHeist groupies who want something for nothing, or by God, they will run their keyboards into the ground against you!

iClip ReviewCrashes, Abandonware - Version: 4, 4/29/2008 04:12PM PST

I agree with the negative reviews below. This was a decent product, and would be if the developer would maintain it and fix the bugs.

However, I've had the same crash bug since I paid for it a year ago, have contacted the developer several times, and he's shown no real interest in fixing it. Apparently there are other unfixed bugs (no update since the initial 4.0 release).

At this point, I've stop using iClip, consider the $29 a loss, and would never buy another product from this developer.
