Product Description:

LameBrain is a LAME-based mp3 encoder with the following features:
  • Drag-and-drop batch file processing
  • CD ripping with FreeDB support
  • saving of encoding settings in "profiles," which can be loaded for later use

What's new in this version:

  • GUI change: Encoding Settings now have their own window, as does the Single File Encoder.
  • GUI change: New Control Bar window.
  • GUI change: Minor changes to menubar.
  • GUI change: New keyboard shortcuts for all windows (CMD+0...5). Using a keyboard shortcut now brings a currently open-window to the front.
  • Change: Single File Encoder and CD Ripper both get their encoding settings from the Encoding Settings window. This offers significantly more flexibility.
  • Help: Popup Help now available on all controls.
  • Docs: Documentation started (nowhere near finished). See the "docs" directory.
  • Preferences: User can now choose which windows are opened on startup.
  • Bug fix: Timeout on new version check on startup reduced to 7 seconds; limits startup delay if cannot connect to server.
  • Bug fix: Preferences are now only saved when "Save" is clicked.
  • Probably more minor stuff I can't remember.

Operating System Requirements:

This product is designed to run on the following operating systems:

  • Mac OS X 10.3
  • Mac OS X 10.2

Additional Requirements:

  • Mac OS X (tested on 10.2.3/4)

LameBrain CommentaryProject is dead... - Version: 0.6.1, 12/26/2007 10:41AM PST

decadence

From author's own website: "I lost interest. I didn't use the application myself."

After hunting around, I recommend anyone looking for properly tagged Lame encoded MP3's use iTunes-Lame Encoder (now on Google code and open source after Alcor also lost interest).

I have also used/tested Audion (PPC only, also dead) and Max (great encoder, lousy tagging) and XLD-GUI (absolutely toxic).

LameBrain Troubleshooting ReportProblems saving settings? - Version: 0.6.1, 11/15/2004 04:15PM PST

I liked using this program except that it seemed to just ignore adjustments made to the settings. For instance I set it to not eject the cd after ripping. Saved the preferences. Re-opened the prefs pane and the Eject CD button was checked again. Same after restart. This was also a problem in that it just would not rip in full stereo no matter what I set it to (both with the pulldown menus and using the command line). I'm not sure if I installed it wrong or something (being a recent convert from pc to mac), but damn that's annoying.
