Complete Apache 2 Troubleshooting ReportSame problem, same fix - Version: 2.0.52, 10/8/2004 07:51AM PST

I had the same problem as 'rawhide_it' -- Apache would not start. His suggestion fixed the problem (though I only had one of the lines to comment out):

# LoadModule auth_ldap_module modules/mod_auth_ldap.so

I've dropped the developer a line telling him of the problem.

I had to comment out two lines in http.conf to start Apache2:

###LoadModule auth_ldap_module modules/mod_auth_ldap.so
...
###LoadModule deflate_module modules/mod_deflate.so

Complete Apache 2 Troubleshooting ReportWon't work: "Can't open library" error - Version: 2.0.48, 3/7/2004 04:39PM PST

aaroneous88
I tried installing this and it seemed to work fine, but when I try to start it using either 'sudo apachectl start' or the control pane, it says "dyld: /Library/Apache2/bin/httpd can't open library: /usr/lib/libssl.0.9.7.dylib (No such file or directory, errno = 2)
/Library/Apache2/bin/apachectl: line 87: 935 Trace/BPT trap". Does anyone have any idea what's going on? I can't find any reference to that specific library anywhere, nor does that file exist. The closest thing I have to that is /usr/lib/libssl.0.9.dylib .

Complete Apache 2 ReviewMissing one simple feature.... - Version: 2.0.48, 2/1/2004 12:30AM PST

I really like this implementation of Apache. It seems that the developer took care to make sure that it runs clean and doesn't interfere with anything already going on with the OS. The preference pane is well designed with features to confirm the validity of your config files as well as simply viewing them with a click.

My one and only issue is that the Preference Pane should have an option as to whether Apache should start automatically or not at boot. As I use this for development testing, I don't need it running every time, especially on my laptop where every extra process eats battery that much faster.

With this one addition this would be an straight five-stars.

Complete Apache 2 ReviewNice but... - Version: 2.0.48, 12/23/2003 04:03AM PST

Nice, but sometimes Panther does not wake from sleep when I move from home to work and I wonder if it is Apache 2. Obviously running Apache 2 on a laptop is obstensibly silly but as a developer I need to.

It is also somewhat frustrating that the pref pane seems to be inaccurate about whether or not the process is running.

Aside from that my only other grumbles are whiny so I wont mention them.

Complete Apache 2 CommentaryNo go on 10.2 - Version: 2.0.48, 12/5/2003 01:40PM PST

The website and documentation are not specific regarding using the newest version (2.0.48) on OS 10.2, simply stating that it "has not been tested" on that OS. Well, I tried it, and indeed it doesn't work.

Long time user of this, but it looks as though I'll have to pop back to 2.0.47 for now.

Complete Apache 2 Troubleshooting ReportSome issues... - Version: 2.0.48, 12/5/2003 11:34AM PST

The install went fine but the httpd.conf file referenced mod_cgid and when I looked, I had mod_cgi.so, not mod_cgid.so. Changing the name in the .conf file enabled it to start.
Now I have another problem. When I try to view the documentation, it's showing me the .var file instead of doing whatever language resolution it should to get me to the .en page instead. I tried setting EN as the default language and commented out all the other languages but no luck.

Odd...

Even when I click "Stop", the status line in the PrefPane still says that Apache is running....

Otherwise well done.
