Product Description:

Menu cracker is a little tool to reenable the menu extra that Apple closed in Mac OS X 10.2. It could be used by end-users to reenable the 10.1 third-party menu extras, but it is far more interesting for developers who want to provide new menu extras.
Menucracker is used by Spy, Mondrian, MenuMeters, GeekTool, noSleep, ClassicSpy, ASM, iAddressX, Massinova and numerous others.

What's new in this version:

Fixed a bug which prevented the reloading of the menu extra after a logout on Panther.

Operating System Requirements:

This product is designed to run on the following operating systems:

  • Mac OS X 10.3
  • Mac OS X 10.2

Additional Requirements:

  • Mac OS X 10.2 or higher

MenuCracker gives you the same functionality as Menu Extra Enabler, but it's open source and causes almost no compatibility problems. All the best open source menu items use it to overcome the built-in limitations of OS X (MenuMeters, WinSwitch, Butler, etc.)

APE is a system hack--one that has been the frequent cause of compatibility problems for many users. OTOH, MenuCracker--in my experience--has been a stable and system friendly tool to enable developers to provide 'menu extra' functionality. Good job, James. I'm looking forward to your release of Spy 4.0, too.
