Do not buy. You will not get support! Emailing the company is a waste of time. Much better options out there now...e.g.Mireth techs "ShredItX"which will give NSA and DOD standard wiping or even Apple's built in Disc Utility which in Tiger can write over a disc up to 32 times...slow but effective!

I ordered a copy from the online store on the 5th May. I have still not received the goods. My credit card has been billed. I have emailed customer service with no result. I have sent a second email today. I recommend that people have second thoughts about ordering this software.

SuperScrubber ReviewWheeee - another byte bites the dust: It . . . Just . . . Works . . . - Version: 1.5, 1/24/2005 05:05PM PST

I have used multiple methods for wiping hard disks across multiple platforms (usually Apple or Windows flavored) over the past 11 years, including built-in Apple solutions, third-party solutions, and alternative solutions such as STRUT and .44Magnum before it became fashionable to consider data security outside of a few in corporate IT circles (or cubicles).

If you don't want to reuse the hard drive, destroy it - with STRUT's wonderful process out of action for the time being thanks to Oregon's alleged budget woes, we developed our own .44Magnum solution from something we rednecks took for granted - target practice. This solution costs the Client about a dollar (for the shell), and takes less than a minute, including time for preparation, safety measures, thorough site cleanup, recycling, and giving thanks to the drive's contribution on behalf of the Client.

If you wish to reuse the hard drive, SuperScrubber, yes, does duplicate Apple's *free* solution in some respects.

However, depending upon our or our Client's needs, we sure like the "knobs and levels" we can tweak with on SuperScrubber. For the Client who has peer-to-peer phreaking phears, we suggest Russian with our own random twist and pick up a Sunnyside Up coffee in the morning after. For the in-house gee-can-I-do-something-better-than-common-zeroing-but-get-it-done-today, we slip on our own configuration. The Rover hard drive etween Clients? Ewww - NUCLEAR TRINITY wipe till next week.

I also like being able to wipe a partition as well as a device (not currently easily performed on the "free" Mac OS 10.3.6)

While it's pretty straightforward for this technophile, I appreciate Jiiva's care taken to remind the operator that scrubbing can be permanent. This "button-pusher" didn't spend much time with the documentation, although it wasn't intimidating to one of my Clients who is an avowed technophobe as I was doing my Scrubber demonstration.

OK, sure, a bit of humor - that's who we are - I think I'll sign up as satisfied that SuperScrubber is a regular paid member of my toolbox team. I'll also be thankful of 30$ instead of someone else's 299$-special-today-online-259$.

Thanks, Jiiva!

SuperScrubber ReviewWorks for me! - Version: 1.5, 5/19/2004 11:45AM PST

I read the comments about this app and then did some research on disk security. It appears that most of the negative comments are coming from those who have not used this app or have no real security needs. My state, Minnesota, has certain regulations when cleaning machines and donating them to schools and such. This app was easy to use and let me configure the security I needed. Sorry nay-sayers, Apple's disk ulility is not configurable! A review last year in MacAddict about this app says peace of mind is worth the 30 bucks and I agree.

I've been using this app for a while and here's the difference between it and Apple Disk Utility.

First, Apple only recently added the 8-way write in Disk Utility. SuperScrubber has been available for a lot longer.
Second, writing only zeros doesn't cut it when it comes to forensics recovery. That's why there are security products like SuperScrubber on the market.
Third, Apple's implementation is not configurable. Some states and governments REQUIRE specific configurations.
Fourth, Apple's implementation is not documented as being a secure method of disk sanitization.
Fifth, Apple's implementation only runs on hardware capable of running OS 10.3 (this excludes early G3s and in the future will most likely exclude more)
Sixth, Apple's implementation is really slow. SuperScrubber is faster even though the process can still take hours.

So for all the commercial app bashers, go complain about Apple's lousy implementation instead of bashing a perfectly legitimate company trying to provide an decent solution to a problem...

SuperScrubber CommentaryDONOT BUY THIS APP! - Version: 1.5, 5/1/2004 09:38AM PST

All that these folks are claiming this app can do is possible with the installation disc you have bought with your computer! These guys are re-discovering hot water here! Although I'm all for neat utilities that make one's life easier, in this case they are preying on those that don't have the knowledge. The worst kind of abuse in my book!

MAC OS INSTALLATION DISCS DO ALL THIS OUT OF THE BOX, FO NO PRICE AT ALL (AFTER YOU ALREADY PAID FOR YOUR COMP, OF COURSE). And there are FREE utilities out there that do this, too!

An OS 10.2.3 CD has a zero-all-data option in Disk Utility,
an OS 10.3 CD has three and eight time write over options in Disk Utility,
and call me lazy for not going looking, but I've read in the MFI Forums that there is a zero-all-data option somewhere in the OS 9 preference panes,
so this app appears to be bringing coals to Newcastle.

SuperScrubber CommentaryWhats the point?? - Version: 1.5, 4/30/2004 12:19PM PST

Selfinflicted Drama
Mac OS X 10.3 Disk utility comes with the 8 way random overwrite format option. (also on the startup instal disk). Panther also has the secure emty trash option and if you dont have panther, a free Onyx can do it for you...

Sorry i dont see the point of this overprized app if you are a panther user.
