I have spent a great amount of time with BolinOS, but have refrained from using it. It is very large and difficult to maintain, should something break.

This does not mean it is poor in anyway, just rather more than most people can handle IMHO. Perhaps some form of modulization is in order

This sounds wonderfull. But even with a functioning PHP and MySQL I couldn't get it to do it's thing. The discription is great but ...maybe some time spent in making it more "installer friendly"would be in order. I deeply appreciate the open source software and the people who donate thier time and knowledge to make it available, but like I said, how about spending a little of the effort on making it easier to configure.

I highly doubt "few" actually use Jaguar. You know, though, I have a Beige G3 in my basement. 10.1 wouldn't run very well at all on the machine. I installed Jaguar and found it's much better and faster than 10.1.5 ever was because Jaguar has more optimized code.

Most people I talk to say installing Jaguar on older machines works better than 10.1.x.

BolinOS ReviewFew actually use 10.2! - Version: 3.4.1, 7/30/2003 06:43AM PST

When will developers realize that 10.2 (Jaguar) has been accepted by a very small minority of Mac OS users and even OS X users!! There are many Macs that can not run 10.2 because of slower processors, RAM limitations, slow buses and not video card support! Some of us will not progress past 10.1.5 because Jaguar is just too damn sloooooow.

iPhoto is probably a fine application, but non-OS 10.2 users will never know. Wake up developers!

Fantastic to see how fast this product has evolved! From the first version I installed to this one, I must admit I am impressed. Totally versatile, I even was able to use bolinos to run server side only applications (using a client browser on the server to interact) and to add user-registration to an old asp website I had on a windows machine (using the page-in-page plg-in. I believe the image-management functionalities are awesome, but I would like to see greater simplicity in the styles management of contents. Anyhow, three letters describe this: wow. Continue the good work (I hope I will be able to code with you soon!)

BolinOS Commentarydocs - Version: 3.2.10, 5/4/2003 05:23AM PST

Hello, hello, well, the docs do exist. As is, we do have tens of people contacting us regarding installation problems, I can not recall 'italktocomputers'.

BolinOS DOES REQUIRE you have knowledge using Apache, mySQL, PHP, and your computer operating system (e.g. MacOS X, Linux, Win). Or if you do not, that you at least have installed them correctly. We can not support these three softwares (Apache, PHP and mySQL).

BolinOS is usually easy to install (most users have had no trouble, all platforms considered), and once you did, you do (as the other user has commented) get access to developer and user documentation (they are included in a plug-in).

Some configurations are more complicated to install because BolinOS is not, as PHP-Nuke and alikes, only a db-based content management system. It deeply relies on the servers file-system to handle and generate data as well as rights.

Hope this clarifies a bit.

BolinOS ReviewThis software doesn't work on OS X. - Version: 3.2.10, 5/3/2003 10:19AM PST

This software is impossible to install on OS X. It just plain won't work. I spent three days in constant correspondance with a member of the BolinOS team, and we simply could not get it to work. Forget it.

the user guide is not very clear and the installation process not so easy. However, thousands have succesfully installed BolinOS and are still doing so. This is how we all are making this application and content management system better. Thanks again to all of you who support open source efforts to enhance daily use of computers. :-)
