CloakIt CommentaryUse Encrypted Disk Image instead - Version: 3.1, 1/6/2006 10:20AM PST

There is actually a better method for protecting your files. Go to Disk Utility located here: Hard Drive/Applications Folder/Utilities Folder. Click the +New Image Icon located on the top of window. When the window pops up:

1.) Name the .dmg file that will be made. (Name it something that won't draw attention if you don't want people to get suspicious of what's in it. ie PowerStoreLib or anything that sounds like it might be a system file. Even if a person is smart enough to know that this is a .dmg and not a system file, they won't be able to search for names within the .dmg or open it without the password.)

2.) Choose the size of the .dmg (Tip - pre-plan for how large you might need this to be in the future. You can't change it after its made. You will have to create a new .dmg following the same process if you need more room. Also the encryption does take up a little room, so a 10mb file won't fit exactly in a 10mb dmg)

3.) Choose the AES-128 Encryption option from the pull-down menu. Set the password to something you will remember but is not easily guessed.

NOTE:
After you pick a password DO NOT ADD this password to the Keychain or you will have to start all over. Also DO NOT FORGET the password you set or you will loose all of the files that you put in there. You will not be able to open the .dmg after it is password encrypted without the password.

4.) Leave the format as Read/Write Disk Image.

That's it. It's really easy once you've done it a few times. Sig

I made a folder (with 7.7 GB's of data) invisable using CloakIt 3.1..... when I changed the folder back to "visable" only the folder itself reappeared.... not the files and folders within it !!
Is this easy to fix ? (I'm not a programmer)

CloakIt CommentaryMore problems, little help. - Version: 3.1, 3/21/2004 09:44PM PST

Citrus doesn't respond to eMails promptly, if at all, to help with problems. First, I actually paid to register this product and had to send repeated requests, after I paid, to even get the registration code. I'm not sure the registration code even does anything, because I still get the reminder to register with the 10 second countdown everytime I launch the app. No response to emails about this, either. Now, I have the disappearing folder problem, too. I can still hide and unhide the designated folder (though I typically have to launch the application twice for this to work), but almost a megabyte of data is invisible within this folder, whether it is hidden or not.

CloakIt ReviewWent Nuts And Broke - Version: 3.1, 3/13/2004 09:18AM PST

It was interesting to use at first, until it went wonky and "CloakIt 3.1 Folder" turned itself invisible and I couldn't get it back. Everything that CloakIt can do can be done from Terminal, which is at least stable, although less pretty.

CloakIt was easy to use, so easy it exploded and almost left some of my folders in Finder Limbo. A combination of GraphicConverter and Terminal brought my stuff back.

Right, I used this program a little bit. I hid some folders, then when I went to make them visible, they weren't listed. When I quit, Finder relaunched and the CloakIt folder went INVISIBLE! Now I can't get my stuff! How do I make CloakIt come back?!

CloakIt ReviewBug fixed - Version: 3.0.2, 2/14/2004 07:16AM PST

Bug fixed that caused CloakIt not to cloak folders with spaces in the name. The developer has quickly answered my message to him, telling me what-'s was wrong and fixing it. Now lte's turn to drag and drop.

CloakIt ReviewDoes not (seem to) work - Version: 3.0.1, 2/7/2004 05:45AM PST

I tried Cloakit with 5 folders in order to make them Invisible, 2 on the desktop, 3 in 3 differeent folders and file formats (.doc, .jpeg, .mpeg)

Four folders are still visible, the 2 on the desktop and 2 of the others.

One folder has become invisible (the one with mpeg files)… but I don’t see it in the cloakit window either !!! Only trhough Terminal.

And there is no Drag 'N Drop

Thanks
