CaptureMate ReviewCaptureMate has solved… - Version: 1.0, 1/19/2003 11:22PM PST

Evan McIntosh
a big problem for my company. It is written specifically for the WorkPrinter by MovieStuff which is used to perform high-quality transfers from Super8 and regular 8mm film to video. To capture at full-speed previously, I had to utilize $160 worth of utilities on a 1 GHz machine and capture to a RAM disk (a clunky and unreliable setup). With CaptureMate, all I had to do was set the timing of the system and it has captured perfectly ever since at 6 frames-per-second, which is the maximum speed of the WorkPrinter. I can now successfully use my older 500 MHz G4 and capture to its internal hard disk. Due to the nature of the WorkPrinter when operating at 6 fps, each frame has to be captured at exactly the right time (the computer is triggered by a contact-closure "mouse click"). CaptureMate seems to have streamlined all the involved processes, and has proved very reliable. In other words, this is the only way to reliably capture from the WorkPrinter at 6 fps on a Mac.
