SleepLess CommentarySomething similar . . . for FREE - Version: 2.6.3, 9/7/2009 03:12AM PST

Not sure if it works with Leopard, but if you are *not* obsessed with running your *laptop* with its lid *closed* (can't imagine too many situations where that would be *really* advantageous!), Caffeine can keep your computer from going to sleep without changing any settings . . . *no* cluttering of Dock, and only *one* click.

Oh, did I mention you'd save almost 10 dollars over Sleepless because Caffeine is FREE?

I've been using it for years with Tiger and it works flawlessly. No "floating palette" thingy. No problem --- at least not for me. IF all you need is simply something to keep your computer from going to sleep and want "one click" activation/deactivation and do *not* want to spend $9.50, Caffeine is a *solid* option.

Just checked the site. Version 1.1 is for Leopard. 1.0.4 is for Tiger. Both are small (less than 300k) files to download. It just works.

SleepLess ReviewMust have utility for Macbook (Pro) users - Version: 2.6.2, 6/8/2009 03:38PM PST

This is a simple little utility that sits in the menubar and allows you to control the sleep mode in the Macbook (Pro). You can close the lid and the machine will continue to do important processing, say when you travel with it in your bag etc. I would not expect any problems with heating although of course one uses these kinds of things with own responsibility --- after all, expect there to be plenty of sensors inside your brim that checks the temperature e.g. of the processor. Also, the Macbook (Pro) indeed IS designed to run also with lid closed e.g. with an external monitor and it is just silly that Apple does not buy this piece of software and puts it into Mac OS X Snow Leopard! Anyway, well worth the symbolic fee (shareware). Try it out first, that's the idea of course.

SleepLess ReviewWorks Great on MacBook Pro - Version: 2.3.1, 4/4/2007 09:21AM PST

I use this only for the ability to prevent my MBP from sleeping when I close the lid. With version 2.3.1, it works exactly how it should. I can close the lid, and as long as I keep it closed for at least 30 seconds, when I open it the screen is off and all I need to do is touch the trackpad and instantly the screen is back on.

Using this I can listen to iTunes or download overnight with the screen closed and off. Combined with smcFanControl, I never have any issue with my MBP getting too hot. Great product!
