I have used every standard approach to empty my trash. Secure would not handle most of it and whenever I booted up, the trash would refill itself !!
Then the full trash (almost 4,000 files) started to generate Start Up Disk full warnings, a whole separate list of problems.
I downloaded Force Empty Trash, and clicked on the Icon, expecting it to open for install. It didn't work, so I opened my trash -- and it was empty. Too sweet.

I have used various 'force empty trach' programs in the past. This program, 'Force Empty Trash - Mac OS X" works better than any I've ever used before. I have a new Imac intel machine. It worked swift and perfectly! Upon opening the app you will need to enter your system password and it done! In the trash you'll find couple of new files that can easily be empties using the regular empty trash procedure.

Did the job it was supposed to. No settings, no install, no hazzle. Small download. Perfect!

plaintigeri just had a couple of files that claimed to be "still in use" when i tried to empty the Trash...so i simply chose "Secure Empty Trash" from the Finder menu and voilĂ ! - two gone files, one empty wastebasket (it's really a wastebasket these days).
don't know if it will work in all cases of stubborn files, but it's worth a try...
Nice little script

D/L'd program, ran it, checked the trash. Trash still there. Opened trash can, clicked "Empty Trash" ... and it did!
So, it works, but ya gotta help it along.

Force Empty Trash worked fine on my iMac running 10.1.5, thanks.
Apparently "the script doesn't understand the event sysobeep message", whatever that is.
I guess after almost 6 years this one needs an update.
