A beginning? - Version: 1.1, 11/21/2005 08:48PM PST
Superstitious
The about box should be called "About" not "bout". There should be a preferences option for default font. There should also be a preferences option to make RST the default application for opening plain text files. It would be nice to see a speed increase; it seems sluggish. When one saves a document, the file format should probably be called something other than "NSStringPboardType".
simply does nothing

This app is something that everyone should have. It's Super fast, easy to use, solid, plays well with tiger, and is free. Can't get much better then that. Sometimes I like to cut & paste text from the web for a fast print out, but don't want to open AppleWorks or Word. This little gem does two hops in the dock and your there. It opens anything and doesn't change it. It even has the spell check. It's just very cool and useful. Thanks
Too Cool

This is REALLY Freakin nice for blowing out fast writings. It even has spell check.
Very clean, easy, and solid.
The only thing that's needed is a REALLY cool icon. I take it the brushed metal look is too much to ask for. I can see that it was last updated in 2003, but I think people should see this again. I've been downloading all kinds of crappy writing application. I wish I found this earlier. Very Nice, Thank You.

This is exactly what I've been looking for! I know it's odd, but I've been holding onto OS 9 for frickin' Simple Text! I hate the way Text Edit doesn't let you edit an html page. I decided to try Version Tracker and I found this program yesterday. I downloaded it, I tried it, I loved it, I saved my work for later, I *tried* to come back to it... Huh? It wouldn't open the files that I had already worked in! In order to test this I opened up another file that I hadn't worked in yet, saved, closed the file, and then tried to open it again with no success! What's up with that?!?! I thought that it may be only a trial program, but then I came back here and I see that it is freeware. Is this a bug?

bit too much like "Plain Text Editor" which is included with the Dev Tools. At least you dont have to pay for it.
Great!!! Just what…

I need! Yes... it's true that you can use TextEdit to convert a doc to SimpleText. But... if you then booth into 9 and look at the doc you'll discover that it's not formatted properly. Try creating a doc in TextEdit with ... say... a colum of 25 items and then convert to SimpleText. Booth into 9 and look at it. You'll most probably have one continuous paragraph with no "returns" in it. I still do a major portion of my web work in 9 and have clients sending me new info to copy/paste into web pages. Every since I've been using OSX's Mail I've had to save the doc in rich text... then convert to simple text, eboot into 9 and then go and "fix" the doc to readibility. I reported this "bug" to Apple long before they declared 0S9 to be dead and they never got around to a fix. Now... instead of converting the rich text docs... I can just copy/paste to this app and have a hassles free read under OS9 ;)

or force you to handle .rtf files that Apple's TextEdit uses." TextEdit can use either .rtf or regular, plain text files. There's a menu command to switch between the two, and the preference which sets with is the default format for a newly created file. So is there any other point to using this program?
