leskern_dotmacThat's insane.
No single suite of applications has done more for me in 25 years of using computers.
iWeb is bugged

HettyThere was no problem with iWeb2, but now blogging has practically become impossible.
And there are more issues with iWeb3.
It seems Apple is going for bling, by adding useful stuff like YouTube and html widgets, but the bugs are defeating these small improvements. iWeb3 is unstable. Even for personal, amateur use it is of no use, unless Apple releases a bug fix.
Is it worth it?

roddy_mckayiWeb has been dumbed down, has no user requested features added and the new FTP is causing havoc!
If you are into building websites, you may be better to stick with '08 until Apple gets its act together or, preferably, a new development team for iWeb.
I don't do movies so I can't comment about this.
My thing is music. I wouldn't consider using GarageBand nor would I recommend it to anybody except, maybe, those who know absolutely nothing about recording.
The integration of the iLife applications is useful for me, occasionally, for using between iPhoto and iWeb. The ability to pull music files from iTunes is not.
I detest iTunes and have "ordered" it not to launch under any circumstances.
The concept of iLife is great - the implementation is not so good.
If you use a least two of the applications is good value for money.

MarkusWinterYou only want to do Photos - how about Adobe's Photoshop Elements, Google's Picassa, or GraphicConverter
You only want to make a website - how about RapidWeaver, Sandbox, NVU, etc etc
The whole point of iLife is the tight integration between them all. And that at a price which only gets you a single app from other vendors.
So what if I don't have a use for GarageBand? iLife gives me the potential to grow. My 75 year old father started with iPhoto and iTunes 3 years ago, then got into iDVD, and is now making his way into iMovie. And I never ever hear him moan and whine as the commentators here do.

BusyGuyyToo bad if all you want is iWeb. Apple forces you to buy the whole package. Not fair. I'm surprised that consumer organizations have not protested. Or government agencies forced a change.
And putting iLife into VersionTracker is a bad joke. It makes it clumsy, for example, for someone to give a good review to one component and a bad one to another.
Offering a package at reduced cost to supplement individual offerings is ok but it's a fraud on the consumer to force people to buy the whole package in order to get just the one component you want. Surely this is not the Apple way?

I've always found that applications designed to do too many things are jacks of all trades masters of none. I'll take the advice of one of the writers and use Sandvox that I've already purchased for designing a website and buy one of the more targeted writing tools I'm already trialling.
