I've got the same problem. Due to problems i had to reinstall osx but before i did i had the update installed. So now after reinstalling osx,my projects won't work, unless i get the update.
I've tried to find on the macsite but with no results.

Hi, I'm a registered owner (user) of Final Cut Express 4.0. I have been trying to update to version 4.0.1 through Apple Menu - Software Update with no result. I live in Europe, Portugal. Could you please confirm that this (v. 4.0.1) is a Worldwide version and not only confined to the United States? Thanks Best Regards Jorge Briz

With this version of 3.5 of the software it is impossible to capture the video if at the Mac it is connected a Fire Wire disk. The software show the following message "This operation could not be completed as there is no video". If you disconnected the FW disk the software capture regularly the video. It is a very annoyng bug!!!
