Product Description:

Traditionally, IRC clients on the Mac have been anything but glamorous. Colloquy is an advanced IRC client which aims to fill this void. By adhering to Mac OS X interface conventions, Colloquy has the look and feel of a quality Mac application.

Features:
  • AppleScript: A powerful dictionary for easy scripting.
  • F-Script: For those who want to do quick Cocoa scripts without the hassle of compiling.
  • Fast & Solid IRC Core: Powered by the Irssi engine.
  • Fast & Solid SILC Core: Powered by the SILC Toolkit.
  • Plug-In Love: Unlimited extensability through Plug-Ins.
  • Tight Ship: IRC over SSL for the paranoia.
  • Styled For You: Pick the look for your conversations, powered by WebKit.
  • Smart Transcripts: Manage and filter your messages into logical groupings.
  • Colors of the World: Fully compatible with mIRC colors.
  • Unintrusive Interface: Sleek multi- or single-window modes with tabs or a drawer.
  • File Transfer Medly: Full DCC transfer support with resume and passive DCC.
  • They're Your Buddies: A buddy list for your IRC friends.
  • Multiplicity: The freedom to chat on multiple servers.
  • Open Minded: Open source, like it should be.
  • Much, Much More! Just a better experience all-around.

What's new in this version:

  • Finished the Spotlight importer, searching for words and nickname will pull up all relevant transcripts.
  • Updated the Novel style to remove the odd trailing double quotes. All messages are on their own line now.
  • Removed the system default find panel when hitting Command-F with the input field focused. Colloquy's find panel is now correctly used.
  • Customizing a variant in the appearance preferences will again show you a live preview. All chats using that Style/Variant combination will need reloaded (/reload style) to show the changes.
  • Shadows will no longer draw on the contents of the chat area when using a transparent background, this could only be fixed on Tiger.
  • The default variant of Synapse now has a transparent background, create a new variant if you want a different feel.
  • Added error messages when messaging a user that is not online, or "whoising" an offline user.
  • Added a new search toolbar item that will let you do simple searches on the chat scrollback. The highlight color is customizable in the Appearance Variant preferences. The scrollbar will be marked with orange showing you where all the matches are.
  • The system time format (24 hour or AM/PM) is again honored for all bundled styles.
  • Our SILC support was incorrectly sending all messages as ISO Latin, when it should always be UTF-8. This has been corrected.

Colloquy really looks like an OS X application, but I am a bit confused by the interface. When notices come up they appear outside the application - as bubbles at the side of the screen - and the text in them (which is usually truncated) is not selectable. When you click on a bubble it closes, and the notices below it do not move up, so you wind up with an unknown number of bubbles that have opened below the screen's bottom edge.

I will have to look at the ReadMe (shock! horror!) to see if there's a way to have those appear in the main window or in a secondary window so I can copy & paste their texts as my ad-hoc typing is atrocious.
