SymbolicLinker ReviewStill working great under OS 10.6.2! - Version: 2.0, 11/25/2009 11:27AM PST

MacHound
SymbolicLinker 2.0 works perfectly under Snow Leopard Services. (Long-time users, make sure you read the Installation Instructions for Snow Leopard... it's no longer a contextual menu item.)

Thanks so much for keeping this software updated and relevant. 5 Stars all the way!

SymbolicLinker Usage TipA must for Dropbox users - Version: 2.0, 8/28/2009 07:22AM PST

Great addition to the contextual menu. For those who use Dropbox, symlinks are recommended in the current version, and Symboliclinker is the easiest way to create them. Thanks to the developer. 5 stars utility.

SymbolicLinker ReviewWorks in Leopard Too! - Version: 1.2v2, 11/9/2007 11:50PM PST

Great little app this, saves loads of time. Does what it should and does not interfere with anything.

It works well in Leopard but when you right click on the object you wish to link, it does not appear in the same menu position as in Tiger. You have to scroll down to " Other " and there it is at the bottom.

Many thanks Nick!

I've been very pleased with SymbolicLinker for the past three months. This is a definite time saver that obviates the need for messing around in the unix shell to create symlinks.

My only small reservation, which I expressed to Nick a few weeks ago, is that links created from aliases fail when after alias is deleted. This is in contrast to how the MacOS ordinarily behaves: If you create an alias to another alias both aliases point at the original file, so deleting either alias doesn't damage the functionality of the remaining alias. I suggested modifying SymbolicLinker to point at the target file rather than the alias itself.

This strong little program keeps getting better. Thanks for providing it to the Mac community. We appreciate your effort.

SymbolicLinker ReviewUseful and Well Done Are Hard to Beat - Version: 1.1v3, 12/30/2004 01:12AM PST

Anyone who has fiddled with the CLI to create symbolic links knows it isn't all that difficult, but it isn't one of life's greatest pleasures. Here we have the opportunity to avoid Terminal altogether, establish symbolic links to large directories of photographs stored on external drives, and the uses approach the endless. One of the better truly valuable CMs, especially for non-geeks.

This little gem is now a standard install for our Macs at work (G5s and some older G4s). It much easier for folks who are scared of the command line to use this than to launch Terminal. While there is not a lot of need for this tool, it proves itself immensely useful when you do need it (like building a quick symlink in a website to connect data from two or more separate volumes into a single website, which can't be done any other way that I know of.) Really useful tool and unequivocally five stars.

SymbolicLinker ReviewNice For The Price... - Version: 1.1v2, 10/16/2003 07:09AM PST

SymbolicLinker does just what it says it will do and does it at a nice price. (Who can beat free?) It fills in the gap in Apple's system that never should have appeared. Instead of just doing away with aliases and making them symlinks, Apple made both available (thus causing problems). This utility adds the convenience of creating an alias from the Finder to the creation of symlinks.

As a contextual menu item, SymbolicLinker can't be beat in the ease of use category. The documentation was complete, with screenshots of the menu item in action. The quality of the utility is excellent, doing just what it is supposed to do, with no problems. The price is perfect. I gave it five stars in all of these categories.

The one category on which I had to cut some stars is the features category. Maybe I got a little spoiled by using the Make Symlink contextual menu item first. But there are two features I'd like to see in SymbolicLinker. I'd like the ability to have the symlink created wherever you'd like on your hard drive, instead of having to move it after creation. And although far from necessary, it would be nice to have an installer (even a small AppleScript, as mentioned by another reviewer).

Overall, SymbolicLinker does all it says it will do, and does it efficiently at an unbeatable price...but I'd like to have a little more. Adding those features would easily make it worth a couple of bucks of shareware fees.

SymbolicLinker ReviewPERFECT - Version: 1.1v2, 8/1/2003 11:37PM PST

My not so useful review: perfect. An installer for this would be larger than the file itself, and anyone who can't find ~/Library should rethink making symlinks in the first place.
