Product Description:

A firewall protects your computer against unwanted guests from the Internet. But who protects your private data from being sent out? Little Snitch does!

Little Snitch informs you whenever a program attempts to establish an outgoing Internet connection. You can then choose to allow or deny this connection, or define a rule how to handle similar, future connection attempts. This reliably prevents private data from being sent out without your knowledge. Little Snitch runs inconspicuously in the background and it can also detect network related activity of viruses, trojans and other malware.

What's new in this version:

  • Several improvements of the Little Snitch Installer. The installer manages to safely upgrade from versions prior 2.0.2.
  • Improved support for OS X 10.5 Leopard File Fault accounts.
  • Improved support for OS X 10.5 Leopard screen savers.
  • Fixed a bug with VoiceOver on OS X 10.5 Leopard.
  • Fixed a bug which could cause a kernel panic.
  • Fixed a bug which could lead to a very large log file.

We all know this is used to block phoning home of pirated software. I was wondering if PeerGuardian does the same.

It would be funny to get a free copy of this software then block it from phoning home, if it does phone home.

The software battle always keeps me laughing.

Little snitch really is awesome software and you should pay real money for it for the help it gives. I personally find all the pop up alerts annoying and trashed it. I guess it must be old age cause I find most things annoying now days.

I don't even worry about Identity theft, cause they would be in sad shape pretending to be me. They would have no credit and most likely are watched by the CIA or FBI, and slipped bio-weapons by the KGB to take them out. PLEASE, take my ID. LOL

I recently upgraded to version 2 and was greatly pleased with new features and general elegance. Highly recommended. I now keep the new connection tracking window open and watch the connections. My main use is to block phone home connections and cross-site flash advertisements or other connections.

After a little research I am more confident that this application is trustworthy and doesn't have secret backdoors or other nasty features (tho, never 100% sure). See objective development forum discussion about whether anyone can bypass little snitch. Consensus is that almost nobody can bypass little snitch. However, there is still some concern that Flexnet software that Adobe uses may have some really sneaky low level hack into OS X kernel in order to catch adobe sw pirates. But nobody claims to have seen anything with a packet sniffer.

All in all, little snitch seems to have pretty tight security. And certainly quality at the visible level.

After reading that file vault support was improved, I thought I give it a try after making a backup of my rules and it worked like a charm this time.
First it did not look like it but than he imported the rules and all was fine without me doing something.
I have been a big fan of this program now for many years and I love it like on the first day.
