CreaText ReviewGreat program for helping to build web standards sites... - Version: 1.5b4, 2/25/2006 10:22PM PST

I have grown to rely on this program big time. I used to use Dreamweaver to build klunky sites. Now I use CreaText and Style Master. By using these two programs together I find it great to build cutting edge W3C web standards compliant CSS sites. I make sure I build sites as "strict" and then validate via the W3C site. All in all this is SO much smoother and cheaper than using expensive programs like Dreamweaver and Go Live etc. The only thing I could wish for with CreaText would be a built in spell checker.

However, I use subethaedit now and I like it's syntax coloring better, CreaText must also add support for php syntax coloring, but I can imagine it will come.

ftp is also a great feature that I miss in subethaedit :)

This helped us build Noodletogs kids clothes and personalized diapers into an attractive, easily managed site. I found CreaText totally excellent and couldn't have built our site without it. It handled the css and html beautifully and clearly.

Making it free software is super important, too. Not just free but FREE. Hooray for GPL!

I think it really shines in a larger display, but I was able to use this effectively even on an old clamshell iBook at 800x600.

CreaText has instantly become one of the most valuable tools in my freelance practice. My customers appreciate things like low overhead and I get to feel proud working with a free tool.

Nasty spelling error: The folder CreaText 1.5b1 ƒ/Stationary should be named Stationery.

This is a large app; 12.5 MB for the app itself, 14 MB including the extras. Taco HTML Edit, which appears to offer pretty much the same functionality, weighs in at 3.3 MB. SubEthaEdit's even slimmer, at 2.2 MB for version 1.1.5.

I feel sorry for the people who had to work before this neat program existed.
It seems the less money you spend the more value you get!

Keep up this great job, CreaText Creators!

program. You may see this twice as I posted for the incorrect product version of MacOS.

Anyway, this is a wonderful program, on the level of commercial editors. I have no problem opening an html by drag and drop nor any other issue at present.

I would like to see an 'open recent' as others have pointed out. Then I believe you should place a price on your product (or plcae something somewhere for voluntary donations towards your efforts) , you certainly deserve it.

Excellent job!

a few more comments. First is that when I drag an html doc onto this app's icon, whether in the Dock or in the Finder, the app opens, but the document doesn't. I think that is some RealBasic BS, but you can probably get around it. Next, the File menu needs an "Open Recent" submenu, for sure. Next, make sure the bottoms of newly opened windows dont fall below the Dock, it is VERY annoying. Oh well, good work so far.

on all one line. Can't wrap text. Can't select multiple lines and indent them at the same time. Doesn't find my browsers on my hard drive; I can only view in IE, NS and Help Viewer. Needs a bit of work, but pretty good job so far.

CreaText ReviewGreat tech/customer support.… - Version: 1.5pr2, 3/6/2003 11:00AM PST

The new version (1.5pr2) is on the CreaText web site. It has fixed the German references in text as well as the bookmark problem on the FTP portion of the software. We develop all our sites using this product. It beats the hell out of BBEdit.
