Definitely a Buyer Beware product at this point, because the developers don't respond to email. If you want to just use this as a viewer this or Viewer Lite would probably be sufficient, but then if you just needed a viewer you probably would stick to your included version of Preview. The things I was looking for was a viewer with some better than average, but not monster Data Asset management type tools. Anyway this has the basic tools I need, but it is unstable while attempting to sort image sets of, probably close to 1,000 and definitely unusable beyond that. ViewIt could also use a GUI icon overhaul, but unfortunately it looks as if the company has elected to stop active development of it. This is bad, because they have not stopped the service to take money for the app and I'm felling a bit duped. Essentially, if you don't have many images ViewIt might be a good option for organization, if however you have a lot of images or just aren't comfortable paying for a something from a company that's no longer actively developing software keep looking.

ViewIt has served me well for over a year now. When compared dozens of other viewer seems to lack some minor features but its speed and ease of use is just amazing. It doesn't matter if I need to scan one folder or a directory tree, I can start browsing images as soon as I drop a folder of programs icon or window.

Recent upgrade fixes really annoying problem with program stability. Highly recommended application.

I've only tried ViewIt for 2 hours, but already found 3 things I do not like:

1. ViewIt's (VI's) Help page says "For better efficiency place ViewIt in your dock." Well that's still not efficient because dragging a folder of images onto the icon does NOT open VI! Even when VI is already open, you can't drag a folder onto the icon, you must drag it into VI's window. So by adding VI to your Dock, all you're doing is making it a bit faster to open the app.
I set VI to open in fullscreen mode, so I could view my images in fullscreen (makes sense, no?). I thought I could drag a folder onto the icon in the Dock and poof--fullscreen images would appear. But nooooo, I have to first open VI. So when I opened VI, it opened in fullscreen mode, meaning I could no longer see the Finder where the images folder was, nor could I access the dock. I had to hit Escape, to minimize ViewIt's window, THEN drag the folder into VI's window, THEN click the fullscreen button to finally see them in fullscreen. That is NOT convenient, that is d@mn INconvenient!!!

2. There is NO delete button to delete unwanted images from a folder. You can use a key COMBO to delete a file, but this means I have to take my hand off the mouse, press ⌘+Delete and then move my hand back to the mouse. Alternatively you can right-click and scroll through the contextual menu. I'm supposed to do this for EVERY item I want to delete?! NO WAY-I want ONE button!
After de-selecting a default preference, you CAN drag images to the trash IF you aren't in fullscreen mode but that's sloooow if you have Dock-hiding enabled as I do.
If I'm sorting a folder of 200 images, I should be able to click one button to quickly move that item to Trash while I advance to the next image. There would also HAVE to be an Undo command for this, to undelete the last deleted item.
The lack of a delete key blows this software for me. The developer may have intentionally left it out as a safety feature, but I see a delete button as a vital feature.
3. VI quits a LOT. I was trying to experiment with several functions in the Tools menu, but VI kept quitting and I never knew why. For example, in the regular window, whether looking at a single image or thumbnails, every time I clicked Tools→JPEG Apply Lossless Rotations, VI Quit. If I selected Tools→Rename Sequentially, then clicked Cancel, VI quit.

ViewIt CommentaryShareware not crippleware - Version: 2.28, 7/2/2008 01:47AM PST

As far as I know ViewIt is not limited, even when not registered. Even after trial period expires, ViewIt does not become limited. It just reminds that it has not been registered and allows normal operation.

This is not shareware, it is crippleware, meaning you can not fully use the software until you pay for it.
ViewIt's README says "program will remain limited unless you purchase unlocking code."

How am I suppose to fully evaluate this program, when some of its features are off limits??

I think it would be more practical to offer a fully-functioning 30-day trial period.

I just downloaded and installed this, but now I'm not sure I even want to test it.

I try to view various iphoto albums I have and viewit fails to see all the photos in whichever album I choose. Probably one of the buggiest and least user-friendly programs I ever tried.

Still do not get it. I open my iPhoto library in it and it is just all thrown into Viewit with no folder/album structure. It is like throwing all your photos into a big box with no organization.

ViewIt ReviewVery decent piece of app - Version: 2.27, 6/2/2008 10:54AM PST

As simple as it gets! ViewIt contains the exact set of features that is needed for image set to be reorganized. iGreg, just drag&drop a folder onto ViewIt. To start a slide show, just press the space bar. It is as easy to reorganize or located wanted images as to view them. The program does not store images anywhere - it is an image viewer, isn't it?
