Older versions of ViewIt had problems with big folders, but it crashes only rarely on me now. Also, the memory footprint is better, though opening thousands of files in browser mode is going to put demands on system resources. But the same is true of other image browsers, including Adobe Bridge and Graphic Converter. I'm currently using a Mac Pro with plenty of RAM and 4 CPUs so I've got the necessary horsepower. If you need to manage large batches of images, an underpowered computer is going to have trouble no matter which program you use. The tool must match the job.
The only issue I have with ViewIt is that you cannot jump to a series of images alphabetically in the browser, as you can with Bridge and Graphic Converter, just by typing a letter or two. The developer has his reasons for this; needless to say, I don't find them convincing - but then I'm not a programmer. However, there are always issues when an application uses non-standard conventions. Whatever a developer's reasons for such deviations, he makes it hard on users, obliging them to tolerate his idiosyncrasies rather than designing his software to meet their needs.
For me the best feature of ViewIt is how easy it is to jump between browser and single image view. Unfortunately, there is no one image viewer that meets all my requirements, so I also use Graphic Converter and, of course, Adobe Bridge.

After having a ppc license for this program I have to admit that it's a very good one exept that it crashes very often on a big list of files. Also the it's very memory hungry so once you get over a certain amount of files (>1000) it's crashes too often, I blame it on a bad memory management. Had this on different computers so it's probably not only me. 3 stars for a good idea, 1 star for the rest...
