ComStats Troubleshooting ReportWeird Problem - Version: 1.1.1, 10/30/2004 05:59PM PST

WiFiRules
Maybe my iChat is just weird, but it saves my logs to:
~/Documents/iChats/

With titles in the format of:
Anna Johnson on 2004-04-10 at 08:20

ComStats reads every chat log title as an individual person, as in:
Anna Johnson on 2004-04-10 at 08:20 and Anna Johnson on 2004-03-12 at 07:12 are different people.

This makes graphing impossible.

I was able to get the email portion to work by fiddling with the preferences. When the "count 'deleted messages' mailboxes" was checked I received an error. As long as that is unchecked it worked. Try it.

Conceptually I am high on this product. Unfortunately I can not make it deliver on the promise. I very much miss this feature (had it in Eudora Pro) since I began using Apple's Mail. I am using Mail v1.2.5 (docs referred to 1.2.3). Three stars for the concept and a hopefully bright future, not higher because implementation is still in progress.

A diamond in the rough, keep your eyes on this one.

beta version at the author's site still has the same problems as all the prior versions, it won't graph my mail. It indicated a possible error with the mail folder prefs, but they're correct. See my previous post. I believe that ComStats is getting hung up because there are other things in the mail folder besides IMAP and POP mailbox folders.

tab gives an error indicating that I should check the prefs. The prefs are correct. (Could it be that there are other things in the /library/mail folder besides pop/imap mailboxes? Like bundle folders, etc? Version 1.1 didn't have this problem, but it didn't graph either. I'd love to see this app work, but no versions have ever worked for me.

is that there is no "folder" selector in Java! I indicated it as such in the dialog by asking the user to "Select a File in the Folder to Use".

particular Fire problem seems to be stemming from ComStats trying to parse the Fire preferences fire - are you sure you are using version 0.32.a (as suggested in the preferences? As for Mail, it is buggy because there are so many possible configurations and I have only a few testers. But I know many people are using it fine. I will continute to debug...

are failing for me. Both say there was an error loading the Data. I'm on an English 10.2.3 system. iChat works, but I prefer Fire. There are a ton of Java exception logs in Console.app. Here is a snippet: fire error! java.lang.NullPointerException at org.instituteofthefuture.comstats.fire.FireManager.readData(FireManager.java:53) at org.instituteofthefuture.comstats.RunningDialog$RunningThread.run(RunningDialog.java:53)

Fire and Adium logs (no Mail, no iChat). The app appears to read the data (as evidenced by the progress popup), but continues to show an error. The Graph button remains dimmed. The appropriate folders (in ~/Library/Application Support/) are listed in the prefs by their full paths. In the prefs, the Choose button opens a *file* select dialog -- but the field label suggests a *folder* is what is desired. I'll rate this when it works.
