Product Description:

NetNewsWire is an easy-to-use RSS and Atom news reader for Mac OS X. Its familiar three-paned interface -- similar to Apple Mail and Outlook Express -- can fetch and display news from thousands of different websites and weblogs, making it quick and easy to keep up with the latest news.

CNET Editor's Review:
Like any Web news reader, NetNewsWire hardly qualifies as sexy software. But it's hard not to fall for an app that saves you this much time getting your daily news fix. Using a familiar three-pane interface (think Mail or Outlook), NetNewsWire lets you quickly fetch and digest news from thousands of RSS feeds..

NetNewsWire CommentaryA reason for NNW - Version: 3.1.7b1, 6/25/2008 12:12AM PST

In response to a recent post:

I find NNW useful even though I'm not syncing between multiple devices for the simple reason that it lays out the different feeds and headlines in a manner that is far better and more customizable than typical web browser RSS readers, especially for handling a large number of feeds. It's far easier to browse headlines and summaries and see the number of updates associated with all your feeds in NNW than in Safari, for example. For RSS feeds that provide the whole article in the feed, you can browse the headlines and get the article on the bottom half of the screen rather than just having a huge page in your browser with all the articles. I don't use NNW's built-in browser when I need to open a web page because I hate having to view web pages without ad blocking. It would be nice to have this included, but otherwise I find NNW an excellent application.

NetNewsWire ReviewNice software but why? - Version: 3.1.6, 5/8/2008 04:01AM PST

I've been tooling around with NNW for about 2-months now but I really don't know why I need an extra piece of software just to read RSS feeds. I use something called RSS Menu, which monitors feeds in the menubar so you can just read them in your normal browser, negating the need to have a whole extra set of cookie preferences and so on. You can even set the updates for individual feeds from 5 to 10 to 30 to 60 minutes -- even to 6 and 24 hours. Much less overhead. No extra software running. Life is too busy to have to deal with something this involved to do something that can be done in existing software with just a little utility in the menubar. Nothing against NNW other than that -- but for those of the KISS (keep it simple) philosophy, I heartily recommend RSS Menu (it can be found on VersionTracker).

NetNewsWire ReviewGood choice - Version: 3.1.6, 5/8/2008 01:56AM PST

Vienna is good. But NewsWire is better for me with an easier way to create folders and mark unread articles as read. Just depends on your needs.
