iCan CommentaryProblems in 10.5.1 - Version: 3.0.5, 1/25/2008 12:00AM PST

A minor glitch. I can't seem to be able to drag items to the can in 10.5.1. I can do the Command/Delete and it work fine, but when I drag, it only highlights the can, but it does not go in.

Maybe a new update will be forthcoming soon?

excellent app. nice to have on the desktop. best of all the "trash can programs" for OS X.
excellent support from the developer as well. emails promptly responded too.

works in Tiger, Leopard fine. did notice in Leopard that when you drag items to the trash and empty via iCan, sometimes the trash can does not update and it shows that items are in it, but they are not. if you use the finder to empty the trash, then all is well. a small glitch that i am sure the dev will address.

highly recommended.
Cheers

No emails are responded too. Made many of them to solve issues. Don't buy product if support is not given.

but why is 3.0.4 unable to unmount images? You have to drag images, volumes etc. to the Finder trashcan, iCan doesn't react on them. At least on newer Macs with 10.3.4.

iCan CommentaryProblem Summary - Version: 3.0.3, 6/2/2004 01:55PM PST

Hi David,
I hope you got my email with the detailed description of the problem. I guess you probably did.
In summary, I think that what could affect most users is the deletion of a whole folder when trying to delete one item from the folder. In my case it was the Desktop folder. It seems that you have already addressed that issue with the newer version.
In my situation, when using Path Finder, the files within the folder (and I guess the folder itself) seem to be in their “correct” place even though they had been moved to the trash. I guess I moved the files out of the trash to a folder —all from the Finder— and when I moved the files shown in Path Finder to the same folder, all of the files having the same name got replaced with “nothing” since the files had in fact been deleted/moved to the trash.
The second time this happened, which was this morning, I moved the files back from the trash into a folder, and restarted my Mac. Now I knew the files that seemed to be in their place within Path Finder were in fact in the trash. I did not lose anything this time.
I hope this helps.

epc, certainly doesn't sound like an iCan error - iCan never erases anything while moving things to the trash, and there is no known occurrence of this - but could you contact me anyway? - David (Kanzu)

I’m not sure whether this is iCan’s fault, but when I moved one file from my desktop to iCan’s trash, without realizing it all of my desktop files got erased. For some reason I managed to recover only a few of them, but most were gone.
Right now I downloaded Data Rescue to give it a try, and while dragging the “sit” file to the trash I noticed it stayed on the desktop, but the actual Data Rescue application which was in my Applications folder got deleted.
I never had a problem with previous versions, and this is really scary. Again, I’m not sure if this is only because of iCan or whether it is something else. Be careful!
