Product Description:

NoteTaker is powerful new OS X software for organizing your information lifestyle, your digital workstyle.

At its most basic level, NoteTaker is a personal note and idea organizer. With NoteTaker, you can make a list, organize an outline or jot down an idea. It's that basic. But with everyday work and lifestyle demands, our information needs are far more complex and diverse. And NoteTaker reflects this reality so that users can add and change the content and use of their information as needed.

NoteTaker's user interface metaphor uses a visually rich "spiral" notebook pages with section tabs. Some users will simply have one tab and a long list of outlines while others will organize entire project and research journals with many sections and many pages within those tab sections. And it makes no difference how you decide to organize and use NoteTaker, it's flexible yet easy to understand. It's like having electronic paper on your OS X desktop.

In short, NoteTaker applications are unlimited. From managing the daily to do list information to sharing a project team binder across the Internet, NoteTaker becomes the software of our everyday lifestyle. Use it to communicate ideas. Organize personal information. Keep a project journal. Think on paper. NoteTaker is software you'll want to use every single day.

What's new in this version:

  • New Version of Sharing in NoteTaker.
  • Minor UI enhancement to SketchPad applet
  • Enhancements to allow display of ATOM 1.0 feeds.
  • Changes to Voice Memo behavior. Panel now floats on top when recording is active. Recordings are now auto-terminated when the computer sleeps. In the case of a remote notebook that becomes disconnected, active recordings are placed in a new Untitled notebook for access after waking up.
  • The count of viewers shown in the title area of shared notebooks now includes the owner if the owner is viewing (never included before)
  • The list of viewers in the Edit button contextual menu of shared notebooks now includes the owner only if the owner is viewing (used to be included all the time)
  • The list of shred notebook viewers in the Sharing Monitor now includes the owner only if the owner is viewing (used to be included all the time)
  • If you try to unlock a Space that has been defined by more than one owner using different passwords, NoteTaker will now selectively unlock the Space only for the owners where the supplied password applies. Versions of the Space used by the other owners will remain locked. You can then unlock those by clicking on that space under the specific owner.
  • Fixed minor issue with covering notebooks with drawer open.
  • Fixed script problem in NoteTaker Trial
  • Fixed problem where a section sort by a remote notebook viewer did not update the owner's copy.
  • Fixed minor voice memo panel display issue.
  • Minor fix to recognition of atom RSS feeds.
  • Enabling or disabling RSS or web notebook generation now marks the notebook as changed, even if the notebook is ineditable due to not having the pen or being read-only, so the settings can get saved.
  • Fixed some memory leaks.
  • Centered cover background image now appears centered in web notebooks instead of at the top of the page.
  • Fixed issue in RSS generation of notebooks with ampersands in their file name.
  • Fixed problem causing entries to not be visible after focusing, navigating away, then navigating back to the page via a link.
  • Fixed issue possibly causing crash after changing the global entry default font in Preferences.
  • Fix display issue with dragged text.
  • Fixed issues with file names containing a forward slash.
  • Fixed issue causing notebook image attachments copied and pasted or dragged elsewhere in a notebook to not carry along their scaling.
  • Fixed problem with some document attachment icons in web notebooks not to display in Internet Explorer.
  • Entries in web notebooks now display their own background color when set.
  • Fixed issue causing some background images to appear upside down when viewed in remote notebooks.
  • Fixed issue with applet data when copying applets between notebooks
  • Fixed issue with user-set page margins not being respected
  • Fixed issue causing possible loss of custom categories

I have used (and paid for) Omni Outliner, NoteBook, and NoteTaker. I've experimented extensively with all three, and I believe each application is a fine example of good coding. However, I have come to the conclusion that NoteTaker is the best of the the bunch. It offers users a wide array of options and features that are just not available with the other products.

From an organizational standpoint, I love NoteTaker's use of the "drawer" which offers an always-available display of notebook contents, history, and a library of other notebooks. I like the application's integration with the internet, Apple's iApps, and AppleScript.

Clipping services are handled with skill by the application. The way NoteTaker implements "clipping services" is more intuitive than the other applications.

Think of NoteTaker as a free-form database with outlining capabilities. It's strength is in its ability to break out of the outline structure (unlike Omni Outliner) and act as a repository for thoughts, information, and date in various formats. NoteBook makes a valient attempt to achieve this kind of flexible power, but it doesn't quite achieve NoteTaker's sophistication. NoteBook offers users elegant simplicity at the expense of some of NoteTaker's more sophisticated features and options.

Frankly, NoteTaker is not without it's faults. I would like to see a more rapid launch time (both Omni Outliner and NoteBook are faster). Likewise, NoteBook manages images in a notebook with greater finesse.

However, all-in-all, NoteTaker is the superior application.

Just an aside: The developers are very responsive. For example, this evening I reported a problem I was having with the positioning of a notebook within my display screen on applicaiton start up. I had a response from the support team with within eleven minutes. You've got to give them credit for responsiveness!

I've been using NoteTaker for a few weeks and recently ran into a puzzling problem. My emails were responded to swiftly (within the hour), intelligently, and the problem, which was on my end, was identified, explained and fixed efficiently. And all at around 11pm EST! Kudos---
