Instead of whining about what it's missing, why don't you rate MakingMusic on what it's got? This is free-not-even-donation-ware and David has put one hell of alot of work into giving us a wonderful and growing database.
The info some of you guys are requesting would, most assuredly, make MM more complete, but, without your making the effort to contribute it yourselves, would also make it prohibitively costly, so why don't you use it as a springboard for your own further research and help David out with some additional info if you feel that it's necessary.
(I wonder how many musicians, percussionists in particular, have already expanded their kits because of this app?)
And David is a very responsive developer, to boot, as long as people's requests are within FREEason!

Agree with others - could use more useful information - Version: 2.6, 12/31/2004 09:00AM PST

Martin Turner--2008
I agree with other posters. This is a nice little application, but it misses the pitch, range, and register (for wind instruments) information which any book on orchestration would provide. There would seem to be an ideal opportunity to demonstrate register breaks by using the play function.
After downloading it for the first time, I spent nearly two hours clicking through the instruments, reading interesting historical facts, listening to sound samples, and visiting dozens of external sites.
This is a well written and entertaining application. Kudos!
