Epson 2200 printer driver lousy

Printing to the Epson 2200 Intermittently will hang OS X and require a reboot.
I print large panoramas using Photoshop.
I am on my fourth Epson 2200 printer. Have returned them for various print problems but the hang is the worst problem. It is the only thing on my Mac that causes OS X to freeze.
The print quality is great when it works.

Epson truly does not care

Their software is late and poorly implemented. Other than straight printing, you oftemn get error messages when deviated from standard white paper, such as velvet or large format. I'll think twice about epson, no matter what the ratings, when i get my next printer!!!
Still No Rendezvous

As others have noted, Rendezvous didn't work with the 2200. Well, it still doesn't. Go to the Add Printer and try to add the Epson. It will be visible as a Rendezvous printer, but trying to add it, does not work. Thanks, Epson.

All options in this release (1.8aAS) and the previous one (1.63) have worked well for me in Panther 10.3.2. This includes roll paper support. Thanks Epson.

great printer is right. epson & apple's cooperation terrible. my 2200 and 1280 are now working with 0s X 10.2.6. I refuse to rock the boat by upgrading my os. I've had so many problems since first purchasing a computer running OS X. Apple tech support once told me to buy a different brand of printer!

Great printer... Needs driver fixed up

We bought the 2200 late in 2003. We are using it successfully to print very nice digital photos on Epson Matte paper with the matte black ink. We are using an Olympus 5050 and are editing the images in PS7. We have a calibrated Mitsubishi monitor (used EyeOne Display) and we are using Colorsync. Works great. We have not tried glossy paper but the buzz is that the 2200 does not do well with it.
I believe the driver we are using (came with the printer) dates from November 2003. It does include the roll and minimize margin options but we are just using the Standard option.
Our major beef is that it does not have a working "center on paper" option. And from poking around on the newsgroups this is a known problem. Apparently Epson and Apple are fingerpointing over who is to blame... But it would be REAL NICE if the two organizations could cooperate to produce an acceptable driver that meets everybodies needs.

when I set up the printer (firewire on a pbg4 867 running OSX.3) it prints photos great.
During the install I selected 'all' for paper size, now I have like 6 options including printing on roll paper, border-less 8.5X11, etc. Three roll paper options, 2 standard and the border-less sheet feeder.
I did d/l the latest drivers (as did the rest of you, I'm sure).. I wonder why it's not working well for the others?
Oh, I bought my refurbbed for $560 off the epson site

cantankerous
Don't know about the whiners here, but we used the Epson TCP/IP driver with the epson print server adapter out of the 10.3.2 panther box without issue. Seems to function just fine.
Absolutely USELESS in Panther

The Epson 2200 is a wonderful printer, but I am not able to print using Panther. I have to go to back system 9 to get results. Consultation with those who are experts has left us all wringing our hands in lieu of the necks of the nimrods at Epson who should know better. We thought we were alone until reading the previous scathing reviews of others who cannot really be called users because none of us can make it work. We would like to be users, but alas...
Come on Epson, this is no way to do business.

However, the drivers available with the firewire option on my G5 are not available. ("Borderless" and "Minimal Borders" options)
