Space Combat Reviewfair to merits - Version: 1.40a, 6/5/2005 10:29AM PST

I agree that it's not very 'fun'. I agree that it's very difficult and typical 'austin' cryptic. However, that said, it DOES replicate actual physics as it would pertain to a space vessel. Spacecraft don't fly like aircraft or even like fictional spacecraft in movies.. it's a whole different ball game and directional change thrusters are the only thing that will change attitude or course. I have mentioned to him several times such things like the 'lifter' (voltage derrived thrust) technologies, but they glance right off. This is one of his pet projects that may ultimately dry up, like Youngs Modulous (the walker-robot combat game). It is a fair presentation of space physics. It is free, it is educational, it IS NOT necessarily fun, but you may come away having learned something you didn't know before. I will only 'recommend' it for the educational and new principle exposure merits. If you do try it, I recommend keyboard only control.. the mouse is too linear to actually control it. e.g. exactly one unit to rotate right, is countered by one unit of rotate left to arrest the movement, with mouse control you will never... ever stabilize. -jason (http://air.c74.net)

I won't go into details - I only wish to warn you not to download this game. Download Pookie and Tushka's Ice Toss Frenzy instead.

I just moved the mouse a tiny bit and all what happend the next minutes was picture salad rotating some sort of space stuff... Can't say if it really is that hard to stear a spaceship, but if it is so, it definatly isn't fun. : (
