Product Description:

Doodim permits one to dim the background of the foremost application thereby enhancing its visibility.

You can switch it on or off very quickly from the menu bar, and set the level of dimness.

What's new in this version:

  • You may notice a little glitch when switching from the dock or from an application switcher.
  • Occasionally the switch can fail.
  • Doodim may also simply fail to dim the background of the new foremost application.
Doodim has to do a little trick which may have some cosmetic side-effects when you switch between applications or when you want to click in the darkened background.

Since it's so easy to turn Doodim on or off, it's no big deal, but we will be able to fix these issues as soon as Apple's Window server APIs are made public.

Operating System Requirements:

This product is designed to run on the following operating systems:

  • Mac OS X 10.2

  • Mac OS X 10.2 or higher

Doodim Reviewcould be more useful... - Version: 1.0, 10/22/2006 08:24PM PST

Works on Panther (10.3.9). Would be more useful if "Dim" were already activated upon launch and if it didn't dim the Desktop when Finder is the frontmost app.

Doodim ReviewDoesn't work properly - Version: 1.0, 2/28/2005 08:01AM PST

As lmb wrote: one can't switch between application by simply clicking into another app’s window. This makes the app almost useless. The competing app 'FocusLayer' (which is end-of-life, but still can be found via Google) works flawlessly. I wish Apple would built this feature directly into Mac OS X.

Doodim ReviewWarning... - Version: 1.0, 9/9/2004 04:27PM PST

While I like the overall idea, on mf computer (running 10.3.5), the dimming pane blocks mouse clicks. This makes it impossible to switch to another window/application using the mouse.

If you must have that functionality, try a similar program called "FocusLayer"...
