Product Description:

PhotoScore Professional, incorporating OmniScore technology, is fast and highly accurate music scanning and recognition software - the musical equivalent of a text OCR program. It is easy-to-use, transposes, plays-back, prints out, and exports scanned scores in a number of formats. It reads a wide range of styles including 4 and 6 line guitar tablature.
We also offer PhotoScore MIDI Lite (from $49) for scanning simple music.

What's new in this version:

  • Automatic scanning (including automatic resolution, cropping etc) - it is now possible to click Scan pages and leave PhotoScore to scan and read pages (multiple ones if using a sheetfed scanner) and automatically come up with the output.
  • Windows: WIA driver support
  • Mac OS X driver support
  • Much improved easier-to-use interface
  • Automatic Read pages after scanning/opening option.
  • GPL Ghostscript 8.15 now supported for PDF importing.
  • Auto-rotate on PDF files
  • Windows: Now opens and saves TIFF files
  • TIFF files containing multiple images can now be opened
  • Real time update of where PhotoScore thinks a stave is, and how many lines (1 to 6) it has as it is dragged around/resized.
  • PhotoScore clearly displays staves that do not fit exactly, and clearly alerts the user during dragging to when it has locked on
  • Shows warning message if some staves cannot be located exactly
  • Undo/redo on stave editing in scanned page (also delete and deselect all on Edit menu).
  • Handles 64 staves (previously 32)
  • Notehead size reference editing when all staves on a page are one line.
  • When many pages are opened or scanned at once, PhotoScore keeps a record of pages in which it had difficulty locating staves and gives the user the option to go through them (holding down Ctrl/Command while using previous/next buttons) before reading.
  • Incredible general recognition engine improvements allowing PhotoScore Professional to accurately deal with a far wider range of scores of varying qualities
  • 4 voices per staff recognition
  • More accurate voice recognition algorithm
  • 1, 2, 3 and 5 line percussion stave recognition
  • Recognition of appoggiaturas and cue-sized notes
  • Magnified display and less on-screen clutter for a quicker, easier, much less fiddly editing session.
  • Automatically resizes scanned image bar at top of output window.
  • Automatically resizes editing area of highlighted stave in real-time.
  • Tab etc now cause window to scroll if new object is off screen.
  • Full editing of virtually all musical objects now guitar chord diagrams & symbols, slurs, hairpins, fingering can be created and edited
  • Right-click/Double-click on most musical objects now brings up the appropriate dialog box or menu for quick editing.
  • Double-clicking on a chord adds a note to it.
  • Selection of more than one note in a chord
  • Individual notes in a chord can be changed to different voices by selecting them and selecting the appropriate voice from the keypad
  • Timing for bars over two staves now correctly shown on latter staff. A warning vertical red dashed line is now displayed at the end of the former staff
  • Paste replaces current selection and only goes into paste mode if nothing selected.
  • Ctrl + Cursor up/down now moves note by octave
  • Shift + Cursor left/right now adds previous/next objects to current selection
  • Ctrl + Cursor left/right now selects object at start of previous/next bar
  • Ctrl + Shift + Cursor left/right now adds objects up to previous/next barline to current selection
  • Sibelius 4 skin for keypad
  • Escape while dragging reverts to original state.
  • Removed problem of not being able to highlight a stave in output when they are very close together.
  • If no time signature present, PhotoScore now assumes 4/4 when calculating and drawing bad timing errors.
  • Various other improvements/fixes
  • Saving of .wav (Windows) or .aif (Mac OS X) files for burning to CD.
  • Playback of percussion staves with instruments selected for each staveline based on instrument name
  • Correct playback of bars going over two staves
  • MusicXML/NIFF bug fixes and improvements, and support for 4 voices, appoggiaturas and percussion staves

Photoscore has now reached a ripe state. Now music scanning keeps the promise in its name: results are rather stunning. For the first time, music scanning is becoming really usable. I give the people at Neuratron my deepest respect!

I have used various versions of PhotoScore over the years and am amazed by this latest one (v4). Neuratron have really pulled out all the stops and this release is incredibly accurate (saves a lot of time over keying in manually!) and is much easier to use. It also allows me to open music PDF files, transpose them and print them back out which is great for adapting pieces for different voices.

A must for musicians everywhere!
