iBiz Reviewpromising but not really there - Version: 4.1, 8/16/2009 11:21PM PST

I tried this out for a few hours because I'm looking to switch and there was a very good deal on this app. Parts I love, the app tracking was very nice. Except that once you move one of the tracked items on to a job item you loose the original and the start stop time doesn't travel with it! It has some nice invoicing BUT if you want to do anything beyond the very basic you have to code your invoice in HTML. I do sound not web programing. Support seems to think if you don't know HTML then you shouldn't be using software. You can drop times from the app monitor or separate timers on to a billable item BUT in the info it doesn't show the times or dates. There are a number of "recalculate" buttons but clicking is a no-no. It will recalculate on info ONLY in that little section and you will loose ALL time info that you have entered. I REALLY wanted to like this app but I found it SO much easier to create inaccurate ugly invoices than accurate professional looking ones. And why does one get this kind of software in the first place?????????

iBiz CommentaryNice Billing Software iBiz 3.1.12, useless if you want to use iCal - Version: 3.1.9, 4/28/2008 10:56PM PST

Hello

This small App is very nice for people who want to do some billing. The idea is great. The way they solve is absolute not perfect. The form interface to create invoice is a horror.

The largest problem ist that it doesn't work reliable in conjunction with iCal. Partly it works, partly not. So if you want to share your Projects and view them in iCal give other software I try. I tried to get it work for 10 months. With every new version of iBiz or OS X some bugs are solved are more bugs are created.

iBiz Usage TipIf iBiz is crashing, read this... - Version: 3.1.9, 2/5/2008 12:00AM PST

Version 3 of iBiz is a bit different from version 2, but I thoroughly enjoy the changes, especially the new Billing status tab. I did run into one glitch though, as did some others who have complained of frequent crashing. The new auto-sync function in iBiz 3.1.9 (syncs calendar event data with iCal) should not be used concurrently with automatic synchronization in iSync. If iSync happens to be synchronizing when iBiz auto-sync kicks in, iBiz will promptly and unexpectedly quit. The simple solution is to not use the auto-sync setting in iBiz. You can still sync by selecting "Fast Sync" in iBiz... just be sure iSync isn't running at the same time. If you set iSync to show its Menu Bar Item, it is easy to tell when iSync is busy and thus avoid the conflict with iBiz.

Cheers,
~b

iBiz ReviewI own v2 and v3 - Version: 3.1.7, 10/17/2007 01:32PM PST

I own v2 and v3, yet I use v2.

Unfortunately with the upgrade to v3 the developers felt it necessary to take up a great deal of screen real estate with stupid icons.

In addition, they removed some other valuable icons which indicated project states. I have repeatedly pointed this out at the developers site and merely been ignored at all times.

Version 3 is a step backwards.

If you own v2 DO NOT UPGRADE.

Sadly, if you don't own v2 and are seeking a small, robust billing and tracking application, iBiz 3 will not be it.

You'll waste far too much time trying to find out what state a project is in and navigating around the massive, unnecessary icons which fall dead center of the window. This USED to be great. They ruined it all for an invoicing system that is no better than a million others out there. What is needed is a great time tracking and data storage system for projects.

iBiz changed its focus to be an "invoicing system" rather than a valuable tracking tool and in the processes, did users a disservice.

iBiz ReviewKudos for a Really Great App - Version: 3.1, 2/25/2007 05:42PM PST

Version 3.1 appears to have fixed most of the new version blues that are noted in the posts about v 3.0.x.

These guys have done a magnificent job with iBiz by giving users a database that allows us to display an extensive description of the work we have done for a client using the NOTE field together with a table format that wraps the text of the NOTE field within a cell of the table. And it can be really extensive.

It took me less than two hours of fritzing around with table creation in Text Edit to create a table and copy one line of the table into the invoice template so that I got a beautiful listing of the work we have done for clients.

iBiz is one of the few time/billing applications that offers that capability. I know because I have examined about 50 time/billing packages as I needed to replace all of my old OS 9 version of Timeslips with a native OS X app before my legacy machine dies.

And the very reasonable cost of iBiz is incredible when compared with the cost of apps that are basically a time/billing Filemaker datafile. These guys have really got it right!!

I've installed the server with five clients and within a week have gotten my staff up and running with a served time/billing application that is extremely intutitive and easy to use.

In the meantime, I've been able to create a custom invoice template in RTF that lets me replicate 95% of the Timeslips invoice that I used for years. And given the responsiveness of the iBiz folks, I'm sure that within a few months, I'll have a 100% replication of my Timeslips invoice. Both HTML and RTF are available for template creation, and I was thrilled as I am not an HTML programmer. Last year, I asked the folks at Studiometry to create a custom HTML invoice for me for a fee, but they either were unable to replicate our Timeslips invoice or dropped the project as they have not responded to my email inquiries.

Bottom line: I'm blown away with the development of this time/billing package which has become a serious contender in this product segment.

iBiz CommentaryUpgrading catch-22? - Version: 3.0, 1/10/2007 11:15AM PST

The website says "Registered users of iBiz 2 can upgrade at a discount by ordering through the iBiz 3 application (this applies to all iBiz products)" but if I download and open 3.0, it sounds like I might be asking for trouble: "Disclaimers: Once you upgrade to iBiz 3, you cannot "downgrade" to iBiz 2 without risking data loss. If you are upgrading from iBiz 2, you will need to purchase an upgrade license."

Well, I *might* like to, but how much?

iBiz ReviewCheaper than an accountant! - Version: 3.0, 12/28/2006 12:50PM PST

The only thing that could improve iBiz is if it did the work for you - and it almost does!

I've been using it since it was the original iWork (before Apple trademarked the name). It rocks!

I hate paperwork. I hate accounting. But I like to get paid. If you're an independant contractor, you know what a pain it is to keep your hours straight. I'd use iBiz just for that, but the invoicing module has come a long way. I use it exclusively.

Better still, it makes my tax preparation a snap. everything is in one place. I know how much I billed, how much I collected, even how much I paid to other consultants.

Not as good as an MBA, but a whole lot more affordable. Two thunbs up.
