Product Description:

Back up user prefs 2.3.4 is an AppleScript freeware application that backs up a user's "~/Library/Preferences" folder for safety in the event of corruption of either individual preferences or the entire folder. It also backs up the preferences folders for Chimera (Navigator) and OmniWeb that lurk in the "~/Library/Application Support" folder and Safari and Mozilla in the "~/Library" folder. (Netscape, iCab, Opera, and Microsoft Internet Explorer preferences are automatically backed up when the "~/Library/Preferences" folder is saved.) It allows the user to elect to save previously backed-up preferences in the event that something goes wrong. It also has the added feature of allowing the user to choose to restore backed-up preferences in the event that the various preferences become corrupted. This includes the ability to back up and/or restore the "~/Library/Mail" folder. If a restoration operation aborts, the application automatically recovers and restores the system to its state before the attempted restoration.

What's new in this version:

Adds a documentation page which, in the event of encountering a file or files that cannot be copied because of owner and/or permissions errors, will open at the user's request in his or her default browser and which outlines step by step the procedure to follow to correct these errors.

Operating System Requirements:

This product is designed to run on the following operating systems:

  • Mac OS X 10.3
  • Mac OS X 10.2

Additional Requirements:

  • Mac OS X 10.2 (Jaguar) or higher (v1.2 is still available for those who have not upgraded to Jaguar)

A new version has been posted to eliminate installer problems. The installation method has been changed to manual installation. If you have successfully installed v 4.4 using the installer, you do not need to download this version.

please let me know ASAP. I've received two such reports, but so far I've been unable to duplicate the problem.

I've just checked up on your problem by downloading and installing v 4.4, and everything worked fine. Could you re-download it and try again? I've had no other report of an issue with the installer. Let me know if you still have a problem with it.
