Still Life CommentaryOK...they're not going to develop it - Version: 2.3.4, 4/18/2009 06:42PM PST

from the plasq website:

"Thanks for your messages.

Still Life is no longer available for sale. We are providing Still Life 2.4 - Universal Binary - as a courtesy to our existing users who have transitioned to Intel processors. But at this time there are no plans to sell new licenses.

Very sorry for the inconvenience."

But they post a a link to the old grantedsw.com website...where you can download the Universal Binary version 2.4

<sigh>

What a great application that *was*

For those of us hoping for an update from Granted SW, this new from plasq.com, makers of Comic Life http://plasq.com/component/option,com_joomlaboard/Itemid,40/func,view/id,5006/catid,17/ Re:Still Life - 2006/12/15 12:17 Hi there, Yes, it is true: plasq is acquiring some software created by granted software. In the up and coming months; you will slowly see some of granted software's previous titles become a part of the plasq lineup. 1) We are currently working on a Universal Binary of Still Life - this will be released at grantedsw.com 2) We plan on doing some updates soon and releasing it under the plasq brand - within 6 months hopefully. 3) We have no plans to release it for Windows at this stage Hope this helps

Still Life Troubleshooting ReportExport fails on very large image? - Version: 2.3.4, 10/12/2006 02:25AM PST

This software is very convincing, and though the preview may seem a bit choppy at times, the exported media is generally of very high quality. With normal resolution images, I have never found any problems.

But now I have made a pan through a large Panaroma image (24000 px width, 2000 px height) that previews just fine - but when I try to export, no matter which format I choose, I will see the export progress window for a short time, then the export seems to finish, but there is no resulting media file (and also no error message).

Still Life Reviewgreat product...a few suggestions though - Version: 2.3.4, 8/28/2005 07:54AM PST

I've used Still Life for a couple of years now, I think, and I've found it to be a great product. Don't let the renders in the live preview fool you...the output looks smooth when finally rendered.

My only remaining peeve with the product is it's reliance on the filesystem to link to pictures. There are times when I would like to move a folder with all of the photos, still life project files, and outputted DV files to an external drive so that I can work on it with my laptop. But even moving all of the files --in the same folder-- breaks the project file linkings. The ability to select a folder or image that has already been used in Still Life would be useful. (Perhaps not used that much, but useful to me).

I also wish there was a way to select a particular shot and then click-drag that shot without accidentally selecting another shot. (It is too easy to accidentally click-and-drag a different shot accidentally when the shots overlap)

It wasn't long after starting to use Still Life that I decided to pay for it. It's very easy to use and produces excellent results. Using it with iMovie HD I can make some very professional looking movies.

I found that I didn't really need any instructions in order to get started with Still Life although the help is there if you need it.

If you need more control over your photos (such as more complex panning, zooming and rotation) than iPhoto and iMovie can provide then I have no hesitation in recommending Still Life.

Still Life ReviewThe program rocks! - Version: 2.3.3, 2/4/2005 11:36AM PST

I think it's exactly what I'm looking for. I do a lot of pan and zoom stills in iMovie, but iMovie's Ken Burns Effect is pretty limited and accelerates very oddly at the end of clips. Any opinions on Still Life vs. Photo to Movie?

PS: I'd give it 5 stars if it rendered just a wee bit faster.

Still Life ReviewThe Best Available... - Version: 2.3.2, 10/12/2004 07:42AM PST

Before I tried Still Life, I used three other programs to turn my pics into a movie. These included: Motion Pictures (the free program that comes with Toast that many people don't know they have), iMovie, and Photo to Movie. The best of this lot was Photo to Movie and it does many of the things Still Life does but at $50 for the full version. I tested the full version on a friend's machine.

After 10 minutes with Still Life, I knew I had found my program. It's one of those programs that is totally intuitive and useable right away. And it's also one of those programs that has so many features and options on tap that you may never need more power or features. The interface is very user-friendly and as close to perfect as I have seen on any program - Mac or PC. (And no, I don't work for the company, wiseguy!)

I turn my boy's pictures into amazing professional moving slide movies and export to 1024x768 at highest frame rate (I let it run overnight - it takes a few hours on my G4). I then burn to DVD and send to my in-laws who play it on their 60" HDTV. I am not exaggerating when I say the picture and sound are as good as a Hollywood movie on DVD.

If you want to turn pics into a movie with sound, buy this program. You will not be disappointed.

Still Life ReviewChanged My Mind - Version: 2.3.1, 9/18/2004 01:10PM PST

about this product. If you use the ‘beachdemo’ that comes with the program download it is choppy — terrible!. But, what I did was to take that ‘beachdemo’ clip and exported it as a ‘video’ at ‘best’ 30fps. It took a while to render (350MHz machine), but when completed it was flawless. I will some more tests with my own photos and if the result is the same then I am sure I will purchase it. I just need to test out burning to a CD and playing it on my T.V’s DVD player (if, in fact, I can do that).

Still Life ReviewUnequaled features, not 100% compat. with iMovie - Version: 2.2.3, 1/23/2004 06:48PM PST

Still Life is one of those applications you love the second you start playing with it, yet you still don't fully appreciate until later. I say this because I have completed numerous projects with it and really enjoyed the process. However, when I show these DVD projects to my PC-owning friends, they really want to do the same with their photos. After exaustive searching, I simply cannot find anything for Windows that comes close to what Still Life does, so now I appreciate it even more.

Still Life gives you considerable control over the panning, zooming, rotation, and camera path of all images. Its interface is as easy to grasp as any iLife application and it's both disk and memory efficient.

That said, Still Life is not perfect. There is a serious problem with the fade transition causing projects exported to iMovie to not be the same length they were in Still Life, which breaks the synch. with the soundtrack. The only solution I've found is to not use the fade feature. Further, projects exported to iMovie can only be properly opened once in iMovie; on subsequent openings iMovie fails to link the audio track which requires the user to re-apply it manually.

A feature or two could also be added. On numerous occasions my panning path took the "camera" off the edge of photos, leaving white borders in the video, and this can only be fixed via time-consuming trial & error. I recommend the author add a feature to either alert the user that this will happen or (better yet) add an auto-fix feature to prevent it. An audio alert to tell the user when an export is complete would be nice as well.

Nevertheless, Still Life remains one of my favorite apps and it has taken a permanent spot in my Dock right next to iMovie. Despite the ravings of other reviewers, Still Life will output full DV quality video or export straight to iMovie and iDVD. Every digital photographer should try this app. With a few bug fixes and minor feature additions, this would be a world-class application.
