Product Description:

PipeAlert is a utility that reads data from a Unix pipe and displays it in a regular Aqua window. The usefulness of such an application might not be obvious immediately, but it can be quite handy indeed, especially if used in conjunction with cronjobs. Of course there are other ways to accomplish the very same task, but none of them is as elegant as using PipeAlert.

What's new in this version:

Fixed insufficient escaping of spaces when PipeAlert displays its own path.

Operating System Requirements:

This product is designed to run on the following operating systems:

  • Mac OS X 10.3
  • Mac OS X 10.2
  • Mac OS X 10.1

Additional Requirements:

  • Mac OS X 10.1.x or higher

using PipeAlert only once I now get a fix_prebinding crash each time I log in. I have no clue what that is is but the crash is definitely the result of having used PipeAlert. Some help from the developer would be appreciated. So far my email has gone unanswered.

on crash logging in Console.app, though, the fix_prebinding crash log contains some fascinating detail. You can probably write a two-line perl script to pipe stdin into a /tmp/$UID/file, and then open -e the file. A lot less intimidating than setting up an alias or symbolic link to an executable deep within an app bundle.
