Product Description:

Quinn is an implementation of a popular falling-blocks game, which, according to the Tetris Company, must not be named here. Written specifically for Mac OS X, it features a neat user interface, perfectly integrated with Aqua, and a smooth look and feel for best user enjoyment. The goal was not to reinvent falling-blocks games with yet another modification of the rules, but to stick close to the original idea. Still there's everything one might expect - including a personal highscore for each player, configurable keys, and network play with Bonjour support.

What's new in this version:

  • new online highscore database
  • automatically checks for and downloads new versions
  • non-moderators can no longer kick other players when no moderators are connected
  • clients that pause for more than five minutes are automatically disconnected
  • once again modified the multiplayer rules: penalties (inserting rows or "shaking up" the board) are now delayed until the current piece reaches the ground
  • when connecting to a Quinn server through the online server list, the server's name (rather than its IP address) is now displayed at the top of the network drawer
  • when a player is kicked off a server, the other players now see who kicked him in their chat field and network log
  • it is no longer possible to add all or no results from tournament or network games to the highscores; instead, Quinn asks the user after each game
  • the preferences window now has a toolbar
  • renamed the "New with Level..." menu item to "New With Options..."
  • fixed a rare visual glitch which occurred when the board had been cleared entirely after a piece reached the bottom without being dropped

Operating System Requirements:

This product is designed to run on the following operating systems:

I've been playing Quinn for years and it has been being actively developed and supported throughout this time.

An excellent web-based tracking system (linked in the application) has been developed that allows players to easily find servers where they can join and compete against a number of opponents. With the newest version (3.4) there is also online highscore tracking, with many unique features that are a lot of fun to check out if you're a typical tetris-geek who likes looking at statistics. High scores are tracked, as well as high lpm (lines per minute). Also, the scores show averages for individual players and averages of all players in a country.

Game-play is the best I've seen for OS X, and I've been playing Tetris since it came out for NES so I'm picky about this stuff. The pieces rotate and drop just as expected. Graphics and animation are pleasant as well.

There are a couple minor graphic glitches (that don't effect game-play) in 3.4 that the developer is aware of. They will be fixed with a minor update very soon. You can read about the game development progress on the Quinn forum at the developer's website.
