Product Description:

CookWare Deluxe makes collecting and organizing recipes simple. Just drag recipes directly into it, categorize them and you're finished! When you drop your recipes into CookWare Deluxe it automatically reformats ("cleans it up") stray characters and changes quantity abbreviations according to your preferences, making your recipes consistent. 64 quadrillion recipes can be added.

It's easy to get organized using the built-in Calendar to plan your meals on. Plan for the Day, Week, Month in any given Year. Print the recipe titles as a Calendar to hang on the refrigerator, then print the recipes with an optional shopping list. Shopping lists are assembled by checkmarking the items you need, add non-food items, combine items, delete them, even add the Store, Department and Aisle of where you want to buy the items. Shopping lists can save you a lot of time because they're printed by store and department so it makes shopping really fast. They can be printed or emailed (maybe emailed to your spouse for pick-up on the way home).

Shopping lists and recipes can be saved for an iPod. You can even make iPod Cookbooks - iPod Cookbooks are made up of multiple individual recipes linked together by a table of contents.

The Recipe Browser displays your recipes as Cookbooks, or by Category or Alphabetically making them very easy to organize and group. Groups can be saved and recalled later using the "Menu Sets" feature.

Finding recipes is easy yet powerful. Any searches you perform can be saved so they can be performed again at a later date with the "My Searches" feature.

Create your own printed cookbooks with print templates you design, simply load the recipes you want in your cookbook and select the "Create and Print Cookbook" function - that's it! Imagine being able to give your kids, family or friends a family heirloom cookbook that's so simple to make. Several different print formats are available: Standard, Standard without Photo, 6 x 4 Cards, 3-ring Binder, Large Print and Custom Templates.

CookWare Deluxe is cross-platform - with a single mouse click you can exchange recipes with any other CookWare Deluxe user.

Handy guides for Food Pairing, Quantity Conversions, Cooking Temperatures and more. Browse Web resources right from within CookWare Deluxe recipe software.

Export a single recipe or multiple recipes in three formats offers a lot of flexibility. Export as Text, export as Excel or in HTML.

CookWare Deluxe ReviewCookware Deluxe 3.0 - Version: 3.0, 5/17/2007 02:33PM PST

I have waited to leave a review of this until I had used the product for a while. I have been a fan of Cookware Deluxe since early days, having used it both in Systems 9 and 10. I was very pleased when version tracker informed me of this current verions. I couldn't wait to see the changes!

While I still have some problems with this version, on the whole I can do nothing but praise it. Recipes are imported into it from previous versions almost effortlessly. You can now have more than one choice in any category - for example, a recipe can be listed as party, company, poultry or whatever in the cookbook category, can have multiple major ingredients, etc.

You can create market lists, create menus and save menus and search sets so that the next time you need to look for, let's say, chicken salad recipes, you can just pull up that set. And as you add new recipes in that category, they will automatically be added to the saved set.

There is spell checking and automatic formatting - though this can cause some problems as there are times the program needs to search through multiple databases which can be frustrating as you type and wait.

Using Find to bring up a recipe is a breeze!

It is a snap to drag or cut and paste recipes from the web into the program; you can drag photos right to the recipe page as well.

I do feel there are some problems to be worked out in subsequent versions- at times the program can seem painfully slow; typing in a recipe is slower than copying or pasting and it doesn't seem to matter if you have formatting turned on or off. However, much of the frustration I felt at first has disappeared as I have used the program and I feel there will be much improvement in subsequent versions. As always you can great support from the author

CookWare Deluxe ReviewIncludes a very basic meal planner (Review and product comparison) - Version: 2.1, 4/25/2006 09:40AM PST

kalsta

Bad:

  • Predictable database interface — doesn't feel like a real application
  • Clumsy navigation and search interface
  • Shopping list feature (called Market List) is difficult to find and cumbersome to use
  • no automatic serve scaling
  • meal planner is only very basic

The programs I tested, roughly in order of preference were:

  1. Connoisseur 1.1.7 (great interface)
  2. A Cook's Books 0.9.19 (feature rich)
  3. Shop'NCook 3.1 (includes nutritional database)
  4. Organized Gourmet 1.2 (calendar based meal planning)
  5. MacGourmet 1.1.7 (attractive interface, includes wine notes)
  6. iCuistot 1.1.1 (includes nutritional database — sort of)
  7. Kitchen 1.0 (simple interface)
  8. Yum 0.7.8 (simple recipe manager)
  9. Measuring Cup 1.1.1 (simple interface)
  10. CookWare Deluxe 2.1 (includes a very basic meal planner)
  11. The Computer Cookbook 3.1

Note: There are many others that I didn't test at all because they looked less promising, based on their descriptions and other people's reviews. There is one commercial product (TheRecipeManager) I refuse to test because of the developer's crazy policy of buy before you try. While I have tried to give a fair and honest appraisal of each product, I don't pretend that each review is exhaustive or totally without error. If I have overlooked any feature, it's possibly an indication that the feature was difficult to find or unintuitive to use.
