File Synchronization ReviewDoes what it says it does - Version: 1.4.4, 9/14/2009 01:25AM PST

Currently running my iTunes and iPhoto library on an Intel iMac, both of these are forever growing in size (iTunes currently approaching 150GB, and iPhoto currently approaching 40GB in size), as ALL people should be, I am concerned about what would happen if a hard drive was to fail. Especially with the photos, how you can ever re-capture the moment? The music would just be painful if that was lost, as would need to spend hours importing into iTunes (again).

The solution ?

File syncrhonization allows me to specify a source folder, (for examples the Pictures folder), a destination (for example on my NAS drive, or an external hard drive), and then allows me to specify which way I want the syncrhonization to take place (NAS to internal drive, internal drive to NAS, or two way).

I'm currently using just internal drive to NAS< maintaning my librarys on the iMac, and then using this software to provide a method to Backup the librarys to seperate media.

Once you've setup how you want it to run you can forget about it, safe in the knowledge you now have a second copy.

****However..... any backup solution should be periodically tested to ensure that the data can be restored, there is no point a backing up a load of data if it turns out to be gibberish**** What this application gives you though is the ability to be able to browse through the folders you have backed up and open the files in exactly the same way as the source they came from. Unlike some other backup applications which archive everything into one file.

You can even set the synchronisation schedule, this is specified in either minutes, hours or days. The frequency of which will depend on how sensitive your data is, but also how large it is. For example a customer database that is continously updated may want to be synced every hour, or even every 30 mins. You need to ensure that the frequency is relative to the time taken to sync. Whereas other that changes monthly, may only need doing once every month.

All in all, the software has been very stable, very user friendly, and most of all very effective.

File Synchronization ReviewExcellent application for keeping random changed files the same - Version: 1.4.4, 9/1/2009 08:30PM PST

This application has very fast algorithms for the search and copy functions. The solution for syncing files is much better than just a simple backup, I often put files in different places, iDisk, external drives, portables etc. When I make an update to a presentation file from my server (iDisk, RAID etc) I lose sight sometimes on which file I made the changes to. Especially if it was copied to one of my MacBook Pros. If I make a last minute adjustment on my MacBook Pro now I'm out of sync with the server. So I simply set up a pairing between the Portable and the Main System which then always keeps them in Sync and up-to-date. The Log print out also keeps me informed on when I performed the sync. The developer is VERY fast to respond. I literally sent an email on an issue and he resolved it by a return email within 10 minutes. (He's got to be working too hard at the computer to respond that quick)

File Synchronization ReviewThe best file syncing tool I have found yet. - Version: 1.4.4, 7/21/2009 10:57AM PST

Very easy and intuitive to use, very useful, quick, stable, and very affordable. Very much Mac in the best sense of the term. My usage scenario is having to frequently synchronise my customer folders between my mobile and home office machines as well as between my notebooks and one major customer's data storage, which can become pretty complicated if done by hand (or by several other sync tools, for that matter). With File Sychronization, it's basically a one-click operation. Love it.
